Gayle King and Oprah Winfrey‘s friendship is an international one — the two were both in London on Sept. 24 at the after party for the play “Coriolanus.” David Oyelowo stars in a National Theatre production of the Shakespeare story and King and Winfrey supported the actor wearing glamorous ensembles, with King looking sharp in pointy red boots not long after suffering a toe injury.
The trio looked resplendent in three very different but equally vibrant outfits. Winfrey wore a unique suit from Brunello Cucinelli featuring a taupe floor-length skirt and tie adorned with feathery tassels; this aesthetic was complemented by a beige shirt and blazer. Oyelowo, who is of Nigerian ancestry, wore a lively African print with bright flowers splashed against a cobalt backdrop. King looked festive in a glittering knit midi dress from Rabanne which featured a pattern of purple and red stripes.
Winfrey’s footwear was obscured by her long skirt, but King’s boots were clearly visible. A perfect color match to the red in her dress, the shoes featured a sharply pointed toe and a slouchy shaft. A heel in the back offered King a boost while the shoe’s soft suede texture contrasted the shimmer of her dress. Oyelowo, meanwhile, wore a pair of black velvet loafers from Dolce & Gabbana featuring a golden bee and crown on the upper.
The international outing comes just one week after King was pushing through with a toe injury. She shared photos and a video of actor Brian Tyree Henry carrying her around the CBS studio before their CBS Mornings interview. “Gotta love this guy! @briantyreehenry decided I needed help as I was hobbling around on a bad toe..he’s a good sport and I’m a lot to carry,” she shared. “This is not a requirement of our guests…Thanx brian for the ride! Good luck with transformers one!! Ps you smell good too.”
Just last week, King was back in the States supporting Through Her Lens: The Tribeca Chanel Women’s Filmmaker Program at a luncheon held in New York City on Sept. 17. Fittingly, she was dressed in Chanel for the event, looking classy in a pleated white dress and black and white strappy heels.
