George Clooney and Brad Pitt look to re-reteam for ‘Ocean’s Fourteen’
Is it safe to go back to the ocean? The slick, turn-of-the-millenium “Ocean’s” caper franchise still looks like it has some life in it. There’s talk of an “Ocean’s Fourteen” making the rounds, with the core of the original cast involved.
Apple TV+ is just a few weeks away from debuting their starriest movie yet, “Wolfs,” a crime comedy starring George Clooney and Brad Pitt directed by “Spider-Man” maestro Jon Watts. Rumors that the two A-listers are also prepping “Ocean’s Fourteen” either deadens the impact of this reunion or gasses it up even further depending on your point of view. If “Wolfs” wasn’t a blast for them, you might think, there’s no way they wouldn’t want it.

The 2001 “Ocean’s Eleven,” a remake of the Rat Pack-starring “Ocean’s 11,” and its two sequels were directed by Stephen Soderbergh, but early reports show that producers are looking to hire Edward Berger, the German director of “All Quiet on the Western Front” and the just-debuted “Conclave.” That Vatican-set thriller, an awards season contender, stars Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci and Isabella Rossellini, and proves at least that Berger has an eye for sharp outfits, which is a must for an “Oceans” movie.
But didn’t Clooney’s character Danny Ocean die? you may be wondering. It was certainly implied in Gary Ross’s spin-off “Ocean’s 8,” which starred Sandra Bullock as his sister Debbie Ocean. But when there’s a will (e.g. a market research report estimating a nine-figure gross) there’s a way.
While promoting his recent sports drama The Boys in the Boat, Clooney mentioned that there was a “one last score”-style script in development. Whether the rest of the original gang—Matt Damon, Julia Roberts, Casey Affleck, Elliot Gould and several others—are in on the job remains to be seen.
The four combined “Oceans” pictures have grossed $1.4 billion worldwide. In 2022 there was chatter about a prequel project that would star Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling that did not materialize. (The two ended up working on a different, rather successful film.) Somehow, the franchise has not won any substantial awards, or even received any nominations, with the exception of the César Awards for Best Foreign Film. The French know what’s up.
