George Clooney responds to Quentin Tarantino's 'not a movie star' comments in GQ interview
George Clooney, the famous Cincinnati-raised actor, may have beef with a renowned Hollywood director.
In a recent interview with GQ, Clooney, an Acadamy Award-winning actor, responded to comments made by Tarantino, in which the "Pulp Fiction" director stated that Clooney is “not a movie star.”
“Quentin said some sh-t about me recently, so I’m a little irritated by him,” Clooney said in the interview, which he did alongside his “Wolfs” costar Brad Pitt.
According to CNN, Clooney, who lived in Mason from 1968-74, was referring to a 2023 Deadline column that recounted author Baz Bamigboye's conversation with Tarantino at the Cannes Film Festival. Tarantino was reportedly name-dropping various actors that he considered movie stars, and several household names like Julia Roberts, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Denzel Washington were on the list. However, Clooney was not.
“All right, dude, f-ck off,” Clooney said. “I don’t mind giving him sh-t. He gave me sh-t."
Despite working together on a 1995 episode of "ER" and the 1996 film "From Dusk Till Dawn," Tarantino said he didn't put Clooney on the list because it had been a while since the actor had drawn an audience.
Clooney admitted that he has worked more as a producer and director in recent years but is working to transition back into acting, as it is easier to balance work and family.
“It is a year on the road to direct, and now my kids are of a certain age. We’re not going to uproot our kids out of school and run around,” he said. “Before that, they could just come with us, and we would all go. But that’s different now. So now I’m going to just probably focus on other things, like acting.”
Despite the shade, Clooney said there's no "bad blood between him and Tarantino," CNN reports. He also added that he and Pitt have been "lucky" to work with Tarantino and other top Hollywood filmmakers.
“But no, look, we’re really lucky we got to work with these great directors,” Clooney said. “Director and screenplay is what keeps you alive.”
