George Harrison’s Estate Slams Donald Trump for ‘Offensive’ Use of ‘Here Comes The Sun’ at RNC
George Harrison, the legendary singer, songwriter, guitarist and Hare Krishna devotee, would never have supported Donald Trump and the Republican party using his song “Here Comes the Sun” at their annual convention. But there’s one number from Harrison’s repertoire he might have condoned… “Beware of Darkness.”
The estate for the late, Beatles great has spoken out against the use of his classic Abbey Road song at the 2016 Republican National Convention.

“The unauthorized use of ‘Here Comes the Sun’ at the RNC is offensive & against the wishes of the George Harrison estate,” the estate tweeted from Harrison’s official Twitter account.
The same social media account followed-up an hour later with a message which infused the dry English wit of the “quiet Beatle,” who was close friends with the Monty Python comedy crew and established the Working Title production and distribution company which helmed such comedies as The Life of Brian, Time Bandits and Withnail and I.
“If it had been Beware of Darkness, then we MAY have approved it! #TrumpYourself,” Harrison’s estate tweeted, in reference to the track from his solo album, All Things Must Pass.
The Beatles’ sun-worship song accompanied Ivanka Trump as she emerged on day four of the convention for a speech to introduce her father, the event headliner Donald Trump.
The likes of Paul Rodgers, Queen, Earth, Wind & Fire, The O’Jays?, Luciano Pavarotti’s family and now Harrison’s estate fired off complaints this week after their music soundtracked the Republican gathering in Ohio. Actress Olivia Wilde offered solidarity to those artists with her own, amusing message.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the good songs getting abused by the #RNCinCLE tonight,” she tweeted Thursday.
