'Goodnight Sweet Prince': Jason Priestley posts touching tribute to Luke Perry
BFFs Dylan and Brandon were as much of a power pair on Beverly Hills, 90210 as any couple — and Jason Priestley is in shock over losing his dear old friend Luke Perry.
Three days after Perry died after suffering a massive stroke at age 52, Priestley broke his silence on social media, posting a photo of himself with Perry from 90210 — their famous haircuts in fine form — alongside a more recent shot.
“It’s taken me a couple of days to figure out how to write this,” his Instagram post began about his “dear friend of 29 years.”

Priestley went on to describe Perry as “one of those truly special people who really cared… Luke was not only a star, he was an incredibly bright light that was extinguished far too soon… and that is why I, and so many others, are in so much pain today.”
He continued, “If you had the good fortune to know Luke, or to have ever crossed his path, I know you are sad today as well… the candle that burns twice as bright only burns for half as long… you burned oh, so brightly Luke.”
He ended by writing, “Goodnight Sweet Prince.”
Priestley’s post received more than 250,000 likes, leading him to post a second photo and message in thanks. He added, “Luke was much more than just a friend to me… he was also my teammate, my teacher, my sounding board, my compass, my brother.”

He finished by writing that his “one of a kind” pal “adored his family, was passionate about his work, and loved his wide collection of friends… every life he touched, he made better… he was caring, gentle, charming, warm, funny, and smart… he loved to tell stories, and he loved to laugh… he was a true gentleman… and he will be missed by all of us who were blessed to know and love him… Rest In Peace my brother.”
After playing best friends — as well as romantic rivals at times — on their ’90s hit show, Perry and Priestley went on to work together again in 2008’s A Very Merry Daughter of the Bride and 2011’s Goodnight for Justice, which Priestley directed.
Many of Perry’s co-stars from 90210, Riverdale and other projects have paid tribute to him. His children, Jack and Sophie, have also shared heartbreaking tributes.
