Acting Sundance CEO Amanda Kelso and Sundance Festival and public programming director Eugene Hernandez said in a letter to the Sundance community, “Right now, we may mourn, but we also know it is important to carry on. Soon, we’ll gather for Sundance’s 41st Festival to discover a new year of films and filmmakers. Despite the challenges so many are confronting, we’re making our final preparations for this year’s Festival, as in times like these, our mission to support artists, uplift their work, and connect to communities is paramount. While it may challenge us in many ways, coming together will also empower and inspire us as we look to our future.”

Meanwhile, Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. and Board of Trustees chair Tammy Hurt said in a letter to Academy members, “Our hearts go out to everyone affected by the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles. This city is our home, and we mourn the loss of life and destruction that have come to it in recent days. In close coordination with local authorities to ensure public safety and responsible use of area resources, the 67th Grammy Awards telecast on CBS on Feb. 2 will proceed as planned. This year’s show, however, will carry a renewed sense of purpose: raising additional funds to support wildfire relief efforts and honoring the bravery and dedication of first responders who risk their lives to protect ours.”
Also, in response to the fires, “the Recording Academy and MusiCares launched the Los Angeles Fire Relief Effort last week with an initial $1 million donation to support music creatives and professionals. Thanks to additional contributions, we have already distributed over $2 million in emergency aid to those most in need.”
Events that have been postponed as a result of the fires include the Oscar nominations — now set to be announced virtually on Thursday, Jan. 23, after the voting deadline was extended to Friday, Jan. 17 — and the Critics Choice Awards — set initially for Sunday, Jan. 12 but now scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 26. The American Society of Cinematographers and Writers Guild nominations were pushed back to Monday, Jan. 13, while the Producers Guild nominations were delayed until the week of Jan. 13. Premieres for Severance Season 2, The Pitt, Unstoppable, Better Man, Wolf Man, and The Last Showgirl were canceled outright.
