Grammys 2025 Trends: Beyonce, Gaga and More Stars Wear Platform Shoes
At the 2025 Grammy Awards on Sunday, the music industry turned out for a night of surprises and awe-inspiring performances. Beyoncé took home trophies for Album of the Year in addition to Best Country Album for “Cowboy Carter” — in a major surprise to her — while young performers like Benson Boone cut back flips off of stage equipment.
As it is with most major events, there were some fashion trends. Quite a number of celebrities wore some version of sheer while others opted for gold — Paris Hilton did double duty in a gold sheer dress from Chrome Hearts. And while footwear was varied, platform silhouettes did emerge as a standout. When broken down, this did seem to make sense: Lady Gaga, Cynthia Erivo and Beyoncé are all general fans of towering platform shoes. And at the 67th annual Grammy awards, they each chose to wear a platform at least for one point during the night.

Of course, it wasn’t just that group. Doechii also wore a pair of platform shoes. But, as she had decided on wearing Thom Browne, that was also not surprising as the designer has a penchant for dressing stars in his platform booties inspired by oxford shoes, often incorporating brogue detailing. And Sabrina Carpenter not only got the benefit of additional height (she’s about five feet tall) but roped in the ongoing mule trend.
The beauty of platform styles is they add height while managing difficulty and pain. Single-sole styles must increase the pitch of the foot in order to add height. This not only means that wearers often feel less stable wearing them, and can be uncomfortable, but that the possible height is limited by how long the foot is. Platform styles circumvent this.
