Philadelphia singer-songwriter Greg Mendez has signed to Dead Oceans and announced a new EP called First Time / Alone. Slated to arrive October 18, the EP includes lead single “First Time,” which comes with a music video of grainy footage around town. Check it out below.

First Time / Alone was written last autumn, shortly after the release of Mendez’s third full-length album, Greg Mendez, when he had to get intensive surgery on his right wrist. Forced to cancel his tour in support of the album, and enter physical therapy, Mendez came up with the songs on First Time / Alone during the ample time he had during that recovery period. All tracks were recorded to four-track in his West Philadelphia apartment.

Mendez has also announced a handful of tour dates taking place this autumn. After opening three shows for Angel Olsen in September, as well as a set at Hudson, New York, music festival Basilica Soundscape, Mendez will play nine headlining shows across the United states in October. Co-headlining those dates will be Allegra Krieger. Find his full list of tour dates below.

Dead Oceans is also reissuing Greg Mendez as part of the new signing. Read more about that self-titled record in “The 37 Best Rock Albums of 2023.”
