Greg Smith Dies; Live Entertainment Producer at Disneyland Was 65
Greg Smith, producer of live entertainment for Disneyland, where show credits included the opening of Disney’s California Adventure and Elizabeth Taylor’s 60th birthday party, died on March 12 from complications of lung cancer. He was 65.
Smith joined Disneyland in 1987 as a live events stage manager and spent almost three decades at Disney.
Smith was born in D.C., thrived in the theater department at East Carolina University and performed in “The Lost Colony” and in Santa Fe Opera productions before beginning a career as an Equity stage manager. He worked Off Broadway and at New Jersey’s Papermill Playhouse, later stage-managing national road tours including “Six Degrees of Separation,” “The Radio City Sixtieth Anniversary Spectacular,” “Sophisticated Ladies” and “Your Arm’s Too Short to Box With God.”
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Kyria Debra Krezel; a brother; and his brother’s children.
