Jessica Capshaw had a surprising confession to share while reflecting on her friendship with Taylor Swift during a recent appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show.

Talk show host and fellow actress Drew Barrymore asked the Grey’s Anatomy alum about her interactions with the pop superstar. Many Swifties know that the “Anti-Hero” songstress is a longtime fan of the hit ABC medical drama. As Barrymore pointed out, Swift even named one of her cats, Meredith Grey, after the Grey’s character played by Ellen Pompeo.

Capshaw, 47, told the 50 First Dates star that her “first connection" with Swift occurred years ago when they spotted each other in a crowded room. After first wondering why Swift, 34, was looking her way, The Practice actress realized that they were both excited to meet each other. Capshaw told Barrymore that the “Cruel Summer” singer then made her way across the room to introduce herself.

“She comes over and she says to me, ‘You are one of my favorite protagonists on television,’” Capshaw recalled in a video clip that The Drew Barrymore Show later shared on Instagram.

About “three or four years later,” the TV star ran into Swift again inside a restaurant. The two sat together, conversing for at least 45 minutes before exchanging phone numbers.

“And then 1989 came out, and my babies were singing ‘Shake It Off’ in the bathtub, and I would send her videos,” Capshaw said, adding that Swift “would respond” to her messages.

But despite those text exchanges, “We went to the 1989 tour, and then I think she changed her number,” Capshaw revealed with a laugh.

The role Capshaw said Swift admired began in 2009 when the Grey’s actress first appeared on the show as Arizona Robbins, a pediatric surgeon. Capshaw later became part of the main cast until 2018, when she left the show.

Earlier this year, the network announced during its Winter TCA Press Tour that Capshaw’s character would return in the show’s 20th season. She is expected to appear in that role in the April 4 episode.
