Gwen Stefani jokes about relationship with Blake Shelton: 'I've never met a real hillbilly'
Not even Gwen Stefani herself thought she would fall in love with someone like Blake Shelton — and that’s just fine with her.
While sitting down on Tuesday with the ladies of “The View,” Stefani lit up when discussing how her relationship with Shelton began. The two met in 2015 on the set of “The Voice,” initially leaning on each other for friendly support during their respective high-profile divorces.
“It’s very unusual. Life is full of crazy surprises,” Stefani, who has returned as a coach to the hit show this season, noted. “We definitely did not see this coming.”
The singer reflected on how each season of “The Voice” was a different experience for her personally.
“Every single season I’ve been on ‘The Voice’ has been a completely different time in my life. The first season, I literally just gave birth to this little baby [youngest son Apollo] at 44 years old. Like, never thought that that was going to happen.”
“The next season, everybody knows, my life blew up right in my face,” she said, referring to her split from longtime husband Gavin Rossdale. “It was this crazy life change.”
She continued: “And in the third season, I’m falling in love with Blake Shelton.”
Stefani then went on to make a few lighthearted jokes about Shelton’s country roots.
“I didn’t even know he existed before that,” she said. “A cowboy. Like what? I’ve never even met a real hillbilly.”
