Halle Bailey Dazzles in Monochromatic Sophie Couture Look for 2024 MTV Video Music Awards
Halley Bailey cut through the noise at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards on Wednesday in a red dress featuring bold cutouts.
Styled by Nichole Goodman (known on Instagram as “nickyygood”), Bailey wore a trim red strapless bandage dress by Sophie Couture, paired with matching Jimmy Choo shoes for a monochromatic look on the carpet and stage.

The dress was embellished with red tube beads arranged in a swirling pattern and featured two cutouts at the waist and fringe encircling the skirt. The strapless gown also featured an asymmetric cutout at the neckline down into the bodice. The “Angel” kept her jewelry to a minimum, accessorizing with dangling chain earrings, gold bangles and diamond-encrusted rings by Pandora.
The singer and actor attended the show to present the Best Afrobeats award alongside Lil Nas X, who wore a pink and white outfit reminiscent of the ’90s Power Rangers, complete with a matching helmet. They presented the award for “Water” to Tyla, who also embraced the cutout trend with a strappy canary yellow dress from Area’s 2024 couture collection.
A fan of bold monochromatic looks, Bailey wore an all-black, backless outfit from Avellano’s fall ready-to-wear collection at the BET Awards earlier at the end of June, featuring a flowing train. Like her MTV VMAs dress, this number was form-fitting, with minimal jewelry. In July at the ESPY Awards, she put her own twist on the LBD with a look from Raisa Vanessa’s fall 2024 ready-to-wear collection. The black velvet minidress had two thin straps connected to the bodice, featuring gold flower-shaped bra details and a small cutout.
The MTV VMAs recognize the year’s best music videos, artists and songs. Megan Thee Stallion made her hosting debut during the 2024 ceremony, held at the UBS Stadium in Elmont, N.Y., on Wednesday. Katy Perry received the honorary Video Vanguard Award, while performers included Sabrina Carpenter, Lenny Kravitz, Eminem and Karol G.
