As we reported back in May, Hallmark is adapting KJ Dell’Antonia’s New York Times best-selling novel, The Chicken Sisters into an eight episode series. The show is currently in production but we learned today that another big name is joining the already stellar cast. In addition to Wendie Malick, Lea Thompson, Schuyler Fish, and Genevieve Angelson, Emmy Award winner Margo Martindale will be the show’s narrator.

In a statement from Hallmark her role is described as, “At the start of each episode the Narrator sets up the story as she serves up history and offers country-fried context for the characters in the way only the best town gossip can.”

Martindale has appeared in dozens of films and television series including August: Osage County, The Millers, The Good Wife, American Crime Story, Your Honor, and The Americans, for which she won the Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series in 2015.

The veteran actress was born and raised in Texas so she is the perfect choice to voice this show that is set in a fictional town in the deep South.

Hallmark also announced today that the supporting cast will include: James Kot (Christmas on Cherry Lane, Virgin River), Rukiya Bernard (Yellowjackets, One Winter Wedding), Ektor Rivera (Groundswell, Sugar Plum Twist) and Jake Foy (Allegiance, Ride).

We also know now that the show will premiere mid-September exclusively on Hallmark +, the company’s revamped ad-free subscription service and membership program that will relaunch in tandem with the series’ debut.

The book for which the series is based was also selected as a Reese’s Book Club pick and Witherspoon said that it is “a charming, hilarious, feel-good story about the kind of bonds and rivalries only sisters can share.”

The Chicken Sisters tells the tale of a generations-long rift and rivalry between two families and two fried chicken shops in one small town and the two sisters who find themselves on opposite sides of the conflict.

Have you read the book yet? There is still time to hit up your local library or favorite independent bookstore to grab a copy and read it before the premiere.

We are really excited for this show y’all!
