Halloween happenings: Family friendly events in the Greater New Bedford area

Halloween is full of all the best things — costumes, candy, and fun surprises! There are treats to eat, corn mazes to explore, and pumpkins to decorate.
There's no shortage of activities taking place this fall to fill your calendars with Halloween fun so grab your costumes, get your treats bags ready, and enjoy these eerie happenings.
Fall Festival
When: Oct. 22, 28, 29
Where: Silverbrook Farm, 934 Main St., Acushnet
Cost: $15 per person
Don’t miss this unforgettable pumpkin-filled experience. Each ticket gives unlimited access to tractor rides, barrel train rides, kids' corn maze, a visit with farm animals, corn hole toss, basket toss, face painting, pumpkin decorating, and a free sugar pumpkin.
Battleship Boo Bash
When: 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 20, 27
Where: Battleship Cove, 5 Water St., Fall River
Cost: $10 per person
Get into your costumes and spend a night of trick-or-treating aboard the historic ships at Battleship Cove. Tickets include admission to the museum, candy, activities, and more. Advanced ticket purchase is required.
4th Annual Kid’s Pumpkin Painting Party
When: 5 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21
Where: Allendale Country Club, 1047 Allen St., North Dartmouth
Cost: $25 per child
Make a pumpkin masterpiece, take a chance at the Mummy Race, join the candy corn count, have a dance party, and more. Each ticket includes a kid's meal, drink, pumpkin and supplies, as well as a treat bag. Advanced tickets are required.
Children's Halloween Brunch
When: 10 a.m. and noon Sunday, Oct. 22
Where: Pier 52, 52 Ferry St., Fall River
Cost: $10
Superman and Princess Ariel will be having brunch with the kiddos while they enjoy face painting, balloon animals, sing-alongs, and games. A full menu will be available for adults, and a children’s menu for the little ones. Costumes are encouraged.
Community Halloween Party
When: noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22
Where: Seaport Realty, 154 Huttleston Ave., Fairhaven
Friendly ghost gathering with a costume contest, Halloween crafts, goodies bags and more.
Fairhaven TV's 6th Annual Haunted Halloween Party
When: 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26
Where: Fairhaven Town Hall, 40 Center St, Fairhaven
Cost: Free
Kids of all ages are invited to join in on the Halloween Party. There will be trick-or-treating, a costume contest, green screen photos, a spooky TV studio, Halloween trivia, a magic show, arts and crafts, spooky movies, and more.
New Bedford Police and Fire Trunk or Treat
When: 4:30 to 6 p.m.
Where: South-End Public Safety Building, 912 Brock Ave., New Bedford
Get in your costumes and trick or treat with New Bedford's finest. Special guest will be the New Bedford Fire Department’s Sparky the Fire Dog who will be greeting Trick or Treaters.
Handy House Halloween
When: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Where: Cadman- White- Handy House, 202 Hixbridge Road, Westport
Ghosts, goblins, witches, and skeletons have taken over Westport’s historic Handy House. Westport Historical Society offers children and their families a chance to make some magical tools to ward off evil spirits
dNB FallFest
When: noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28
Where: downtown New Bedford
All sorts of family fun awaits from a trunk or treat and Halloween Costume Parade, to a dance party and face painting. There will be snack and food stations, tarot card readings, a selfie station, performances, and more.
Pumpkin Palooza
When: 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28
Where: Benjamin Cushing Community Center, 465 Mill St., Marion
A fun night for all with music, refreshments, yard games, face painting, a petting zoo, balloon animals, and goody bags. Pumpkins and pumpkin-carving tools will be provided for those who pre-register by calling (508) 748-3570. Don't miss a snack break from the Oxford Creamery Oxcart.
Truck or Treat!
When: 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28
Where: Middleboro VFW, 12 Station St., Middleboro
Cost: Free
Decorate your cars and dress the kids up for a night of trick-or-treating at the car show. Full bar and food for purchase.
Spooktacular Trunk and Treat Extravaganza
When: 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28
Where: Soares Martial Arts, 331 State Road, North Dartmouth
Cost: Free
An enchanting experience for all little goblins and gremlins. It is a full-blown candy and popcorn extravaganza! with car trunks adorned with delectable treats, toys, and mysterious surprises. A night of laughter, costumes, and memories that will last beyond the grave.
Westport Fire Department Halloween Party
When: 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29
Where: Westport Fire Dept., 54 Hixbridge Road, Westport
Cost: free but donations are welcome
Enjoy a spooky walkthrough, games, candy, arts & crafts, a bounce house, and more.
4th Annual Trunk or Treat
When: 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29
Where: 950 Kings Highway, New Bedford
All ages are welcome to trick or treat at trunks decorated for Halloween.
Truck or Treat at Navigator Motors
When: noon to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31
Where: 615 Cove Road, New Bedford
Have a spooktacular time dressing up in your costume and getting some treats before you head out for trick or treating.
Fall River's Downtown Spooky Stroll
When: 2 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, October 31
Where: downtown Fall River
Venture through the enchanting Historic Downtown area on Halloween day for a spine-tingling trick-or-treat adventure like no other.
55th Annual Halloween Parade
When: 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31
Where: Hazelwood Park on Brock Avenue
Cost: Free
Join the South End Community for the 55th annual Halloween Parade. The parade will meet at Hazelwood Park on Brock Ave and march down to Clegg Field. There will be a DJ, hot cocoa, treats, raffles, and prizes for all of the kids who participate.
Corn Maze
When: 3 to 6 p.m. Fridays, 1 to 6 p.m. Saturdays
Where: Buzzards Bay Brewing, 98 Horseneck Road, Westport
Cost: 12 years old to adult $10; 4 to 11 years old $8; under 3 free.
See if you can find your way through the 6-acre corn maze. Fun for all ages with a scavenger hunt throughout. Dependent on the weather.
Boo at the Zoo
When: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays in October
Where: Buttonwood Park Zoo, 425 Hawthorn St., New Bedford
Cost: members: $13 adults, $9 children 2-17, under 2 free; non-members: $18 adults, $14 2-17, under 2 free
The zoo turns into a ghoulish Halloween wonderland for families to explore. Wear your costumes for the campus-wide trick or treating, games, food, and fun.
Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular
When: 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. from now until Tuesday, Oct. 31
Where: Roger Williams Park Zoo, 1000 Elmwood Ave., Providence, R.I.
Cost: Monday through Thursday: adult $18, child $15; Friday through Sunday: adult $21, child $18; toddlers one and under are always free.
Celebrate the Halloween season with a visit to Roger Williams Zoo's Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular. Stroll through a path that features thousands of intricately carved pumpkins.
