Happy birthday, Princess Charlotte! See the sweet photos of the young royal
Yes, King Charles III's coronation may be this weekend. But another royal event this week shouldn't go ignored: Princess Charlotte's birthday!
"Wishing Princess Charlotte a very happy birthday! 8 tomorrow," the Prince and Princess of Wales posted on Instagram Monday. Princess Kate snapped the photo, as she is wont to do with her children, showing off her photography skills in the process. Charlotte wore a white dress with a blue-and-pink flower pattern for the occasion. She beams a bright smile and has evidently lost several teeth, like any other 8-year-old.
Commenters on the post pointed out she looks a lot like her dad, Prince William, now first-in-line to the throne following the death of his grandmother Queen Elizabeth II last fall and ascension of his father, King Charles. Charlotte is now third-in-line, with her older brother George, 9, ahead of her and younger brother Louis, 5, behind her.
The Prince and Princess of Wales posted a second photo on Charlotte's actual birthday, May 2, with the caption: "Thank you for all the birthday wishes." The picture features Charlotte in a blue-and-white-striped sweater and jeans clutching her beautiful dog, black cocker spaniel Orla.
King Charles will be crowned on Saturday at his coronation alongside his wife, Queen Consort Camilla. Audiences can queue along designated viewing areas in London between Buckingham Palace and Westminster Abbey to watch the coronation, or people can watch it all go down from home.
If you want to watch the ceremony live, you'll need to get up early. The official service will begin at Westminster Abbey at 6 a.m. EST, which is 11 a.m. British Standard Time. The service is expected to last around two hours.
Major cable networks and media sites will be covering the coronation. You can follow along live with USA TODAY.
