‘Will & Harper’ trailer: Will Ferrell and his BFF embark on an endearing road trip after she comes out as trans
Netflix on Thursday dropped the trailer for “Will & Harper,” its heartwarming documentary chronicling a road trip between Will Ferrell and Harper Steele, his friend of nearly 30 years.
But this is no ordinary trip between two besties who met in 1995 when both were hired at “Saturday Night Live” and quickly bonded. Steele wrote a bunch of Ferrell sketches and eventually became head writer. They most recently co-wrote 2020’s “Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga.” Two years ago, the actor received an email from Steele coming out as a trans woman. Ferrell had one proposition.

The two hit the road for 16 days, driving from New York to Los Angeles, with lots of emotional, revealing and of course hilarious moments in between (but apparently no stops at Dunkin’). “Through laughter, tears, and many cans of Pringles, they push past their comfort zones as they re-examine their relationships to these spaces, and to each other, in this new light,” per the logline.
“Will & Harper” premiered at Sundance to rave reviews and was promptly acquired by Netflix. The doc screened at Telluride over the weekend to standing ovations.
Directed by Josh Greenbaum (“The Short Game,” “Becoming Bond,” “Too Funny to Fail”), “Will & Harper” opens in select theaters on Sept. 13 and streams on Netflix on Sept. 27.
