What’s Hayley Erbert Doing Next?

2023 was a year of highs and lows for Erbert, who married Derek Hough in August 2023 and then finished the year with emergency brain surgery. But now, there’s a new project on the way, with husband Derek Hough, no less! “We’re actually working on something right now,” Hough told Us Weekly. “That we’re looking forward to sharing with people. It’s going to be really beautiful.”

The project comes just four months after Erbert returned to the stage for the Symphony of Dance Tour, her official comeback after surgery. The tour, which had officially kicked off in September 2023, was halted when Erbert needed emergency surgery after being diagnosed with a cranial hematoma from a burst blood vessel.

“When I think about it, I want to cry because it was just a very emotional and powerful tour,” Hough told Us Weekly of Erbert’s April comeback, also adding that “The reaction from the crowd, the show and, of course, Hayley being on stage with me — it was just incredibly powerful and very special.”

The Dancing With the Stars judge also called the experience “an absolute monumental moment in our lives.”

Erbert needed two separate brain surgeries and spent months not knowing if she’d be able to dance again before she went back to the studio and then back into the tour, to the delight of fans. In May, she reflected on the journey on Instagram, saying:

“The Symphony of Dance tour has only been over for a few days and I still haven’t quite found the words to express my emotions. This tour was truly one of the most fulfilling experiences in my life. When we kicked it off in September, I was on cloud nine; getting to travel and perform with my newlywed husband, doing the most challenging show I have ever done in my entire life. Then December 6th rolled around, and everything came to a screeching halt. When there were talks of resuming the tour a few months later, there was so much uncertainty around it for me. But I DID IT! This tour reignited many parts of me that have been dim for so long. So, for that, I cannot thank everyone who came out to support us on this wild journey enough. I am so grateful to still be here, with you all, doing what I love. Thank you, thank you, thank you ????”

Hough and Erbert met in 2014 when Hough and his sister, Julianne Hough, hired Erbert to go on tour with them. Erbert joined as a troupe member on Dancing With the Stars in Season 21. The pair confirmed their relationship in 2017 and married in 2023.

Hough is currently a judge on Dancing With the Stars, which is set to return for a new season on September 17.
