Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi to Join Stephen Colbert for Live DNC ‘Late Show’ Episodes

Stephen Colbert is taking The Late Show to Chicago for the 2024 Democratic National Convention — with some big names set to join him for live shows next week.

Colbert’s stint in the Midwest kicks off on Monday, coinciding with the opening date of the DNC. That night, he’ll be joined by Hillary Rodham Clinton and Julia Louis-Dreyfus (who will also host her own panel during the DNC). Tuesday’s episode will feature Nancy Pelosi and House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, along with a special appearance by Laura Benanti. Wednesday’s show will have Pete Buttigieg and a performance by Chance the Rapper. Thursday’s episode, the last of the live Chicago shows, will feature Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, with performances by Mavis Staples and Jeff Tweedy.

Each episode will be taped live from Chicago’s Auditorium Theater, a short distance away from United Center, where most events from the convention will be held. Colbert had previously announced the upcoming Auditorium Theater shows in April. “I am very excited to broadcast from the beautiful Auditorium,” he said at the time. “I started my career in Chicago, let’s see if I can end it there.”

In July, The Late Show aired live during the Republican National Convention, providing real-time updates. However, instead of traveling to Milwaukee for the event, those episodes were filmed at the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City. The show has broadcast live during the political conventions in previous election years, first in 2016 and again in 2020.

The 2024 Democratic National Convention, scheduled for Aug. 19-22, will bring together Democrats from all over the country to support Vice President Kamala Harris in her campaign for the presidency, with Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate. While the main activities will be held at the United Center, there will be additional events hosted at the McCormick Place Convention Center. Over 50,000 attendees are expected this year.
