‘House of the Dragon’ Season 2 cast photos: Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy …
The second season of “House of the Dragon” began filming in April of 2023 and premiered on June 16, 2024. The award-winning TV series is based on George R.R. Martin‘s novel “Fire & Blood” and is set approximately 200 years before the events of parent series “Game of Thrones.” While the first season told the story of House Targaryen over the span of several decades and thus incorporated several time jumps, the second season will reportedly take place fully in one time period (which means no more confusing cast changes).
Returning series regulars from Season 1 include Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Rhys Ifans, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney and Sonoya Mizuno. Also back are recurring cast members Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban, Jefferson Hall and Matthew Needham. Showrunner Ryan Condal released the following statement about the eight new episodes: “‘House of the Dragon’ has returned. We are thrilled to be shooting again with members of our original family as well as new talents on both sides of the camera. All your favorite characters will soon be conspiring at the council tables, marching with their armies, and riding their dragons into battle. We can’t wait to share what we have in store.”
On the awards front, Season 1 of “House of the Dragon” won the Golden Globe for Best Drama Series, the Emmy Award for fantasy/sci-fi costumes, the Costume Designer Guild Award for sci-fi/fantasy, and three BAFTA Awards for makeup/hair, visual effects and sound.
