Hunter Schafer claims ‘Euphoria’ co-star Dominic Fike cheated on her — how she found out

Hunter Schafer opened up about what led to her split from “Euphoria” co-star Dominic Fike, noting that the decision was “mutually agreed upon.”

“It’s one of the cleaner breakups I’ve had,” the 25-year-old admitted during Wednesday’s “Call Her Daddy” podcast episode. “We both recognized that this is not working, and we can’t do this. We got to go our own separate ways.”

Despite appearing to be on good terms now, the actress claimed she found out he was cheating on her when she went through his phone.

“Part of why the relationship ended is because I got cheated on for the first time,” Schafer said.

“It was this whole process of realizing that cheating has nothing to do with you,” she went on. “It has everything to do with that person and whatever kind of pain they are in and whatever they are dealing with.”

“It was so, so hard because we really loved each other,” Schafer continued. “He’s a really special person, and I love his soul and everything.”

Schafer noted that she wasn’t “proud” of herself for looking at his phone, but had “a gut” feeling. The situation “fundamentally changed [her] as a person.”

The couple — who first sparked romance rumors in early 2022 after meeting on the HBO series’ second season — went Instagram official in February of that year.

However, Schafer and the 28-year-old went their separate ways in July 2023.

The model added that for a minute, “it was messy,” but for the most part, “it was a clean parting, and he has a lot to work on.”

But Schafer also recognizes her own issues, telling host Alex Cooper, “I also have a lot to work on.”

Reps for Fike had no comment.

“I think that’s also why I’m in this era of, I gotta figure my s – – t out,” she confessed. “We had a really good thing. But there were things in our own selves that had nothing to do with each other that kept coming up in the way of the relationship.”

Is another relationship in the public eye in the cards for Schafer? As she put it, “I don’t know if I’ll ever do it again.”

The “Cuckoo” actress explained, “At some point when you’re doing it, it gets just too hard. You can try to hide it, but I’ve also come to this point just with fame in general, where, like, people are going to say what they’re going to say. I really don’t give a s – – t.”

However, one thing hasn’t changed: Schafer’s type.

The “Hunger Games: Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes” star noted that she is into musicians, but dating in that industry has a downside.

“The thing that’s tough with musicians — or at least with successful musicians who are doing tours and stuff — and I guess it’s the same thing with actors. They have to go off for however many months [on] tour, and then I’m working. It’s very hard,” Schafer said.

“I don’t know if that is, like, in my path again,” she said, “because I’ve done it and I’ve tried it and really tried to make it work. It’s just very hard. At least at this point in my life, I don’t have the capacity to, like, figure out how that works. Maybe someday, though. We’ll see.”

Fike, meanwhile, shed light on where he stood following the pair’s breakup last summer.

“I could make music around her, which was crazy. I was looking through songs the other day and found one that I made with her,” the “3 Nights” artist told the Los Angeles Times in July 2023. “I was like, ‘Man, that was so cool.’ But the fact of me saying that — of being uncomfortable being alone — that’s a bad thing. So I decided to just be alone for a while.”

But when it comes to working on Season 3 of “Euphoria” with his ex, Fike is excited to return.

“I have a better dynamic with everybody. I mean, well, I don’t know. Almost everybody,” he told Zane Lowe during an interview for Apple Music at the time. “I think it’ll be fine. We’re all adults, kind of. I’m trying.”

And it seems like it’s time to test that theory, as the hit high school drama will start filming in January 2025.

“We could not be happier with our creative partnership with Sam and this incredible cast,” Executive Vice President of HBO Programming Francesca Orsi told Variety in a statement. “We look forward to bringing this new season of Euphoria to life for the fans.”

The network confirmed that the entire principal cast will be returning alongside Schafer and Fike, including Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Alexa Demie, Storm Reid, Jacob Elordi, Maude Apatow and Eric Dane.

The third installment’s kickoff date was delayed numerous times, with the streaming platform sharing in March that it was pushed back due to the scripts still being written by creator Sam Levinson.

A month later, Zendaya — who serves as an executive producer and plays Rue Bennett on the series — admitted that she didn’t know where the series stood amid the pause.

“If it’s right for the characters and everything turns out the way it should, of course,” Zendaya told Variety. “But it’s beyond me.”
