Ice-T Checks Fan Claiming ‘Law & Order: SVU’ Went “Woke”

Ice-T had to check a fan who claimed that Law & Order: SVU has gone downhill due to it becoming “woke.”

Earlier this month, the Hip-Hop legend uploaded a post to X/Twitter revealing that he was in the throes of filming new episodes of the storied crime show. “Seems like everyone is at the OLYMPICS…. I’m at Work. SVU on location. Season 26,” the post read with a picture of multiple vehicles, including trailers for actors on the show.

An SVU fan responded to the picture wondering when the show decided to seemingly base its topics on a perceived agenda—the “woke” agenda. “Did they write SVU back to normal yet? It started to go woke,” they typed on Tuesday (Aug. 27). Ice-T had time that day and decided to give them some of his signature attitude that fans grew to love during his days as an emcee, saying, “What the F is Woke? lol Like I give a F**k.”

Another fan jumped into the fray, thinking that T would side with being against the term and decided to define “woke,” typing, “Woke means tearing down my John Wayne statues and forcing me to erect a Spider-Man fountain that sprays gay beer on my lawn that turns it into astroturf.”

Ice-T quickly responded to the paraphrased definition with a very on-brand comment that echoed Public Enemy’s “Fight the Power”: “That sounds Dope…F John Wayne.” The California native followed up his sentiment with a clear perspective on where he stands, writing, “I stay outta Political sh*t. Like I said before… The Blue Vs The Red… It’s GangBangin to me.”

In 2023, the artist, né Tracy Lauren Marrow, spoke to Variety about joining the show and the idea that SVU promoted “copaganda.” He also addressed other topics the series covers, like racism and human trafficking, and detailed how show creator Dick Wolf convinced him to join the show 24 years ago.

“People have said that our television shows are police propaganda, making the police look good. I understand that argument,” Ice-T told the outlet. “The cop I am on our show is an SVU detective…When I got the job at SVU, Dick Wolf said to me, ‘Ice, you don’t like cops, right?’ I told him that during my criminal past, I didn’t hate cops — they were my opponents. [He asked,] ‘But you admit we need them, right?’ I said, ‘Yeah.’ So, Wolf told me to play the cop that we need. And if I play the cop that we need, I won’t have any problems with it.”

If it wasn’t obvious, Ice-T will return for the 26th season of SVU. The veteran entertainer will star in the show alongside Mariska Harigtay, Kevin Kane, Juliana Aidén Martinez, and Peter Scanavino.

Law & Order: SVU is set to return for its 26th season on NBC this Fall.
