Iconic Dutch Format ‘Crossing Land, Sea And Air’ Handed Revival Treatment
One of the Netherlands’ longest-running entertainment formats is being given another lease of life. Crossing Land, Sea and Air is returning to RTL later this month following a 50th anniversary special that premiered last year. The iconic competition sees contestants from across the country participate in a set of races in which they build their own vehicles. Each designed for a unique challenge, they are judged on speed, agility and creativity, with a special prize for the most innovative design. The format was originally created by TROS and René Stokvis in 1973 and has been a hit in the Netherlands for decades. EndemolShine Nederland, which is part of Banijay Benelux, is producing. “We are confident it will delight long-standing fans and new audiences alike, with its nod to classic challenges, alongside fresh twists, and a conscientious approach to sustainability as an Albert-certified production,” said EndemolShine Nederland MD Rob van der Vleugel.

BBC Adds Another Episode Of ‘Pompeii: The New Dig’ Following Discovery
The BBC has filmed an additional episode of Pompeii: The New Dig following an extraordinary new find coming to light. Working-titled The Woman With the Pearl Earrings, the new episode will focus on one extremely wealthy house thought to have belonged to a high-ranking politician. Here, inside one of the rooms, archaeologists have found the bodies of a young man and an older woman, found clutching a box of exquisite jewelry and gold coins. Produced by Lion Television, the three-part series was a hit for the BBC last year. It was first revealed by Deadline alongside a documentary about the Caribbean in April 2023. “When I heard that two new bodies had been discovered at the site, I knew the BBC had to go back to Pompeii,” said BBC head of specialist factual commissioning Jack Bootle.
