Iconic Troubadour recreated at Venetian as Eagles begin residency at Sphere
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The Eagles bring California wherever they go, and Las Vegas is no exception as the band’s Sphere residency opens Friday night.
As with most things Vegas, it’s on another level.
The old Troubadour from Santa Monica Boulevard has been transplanted to The Venetian Resort Las Vegas.
Cindy Frey, who was married to the band’s late founding member, Glenn Frey, spoke Friday morning about how the project happened.
“We knew we wanted to do something special. Our fans, you know, we’re going to be here for a little bit. Our fans are the greatest in the world, and they come here to walk back in time and get something of themselves back,” she said.
“And we thought, what better way to do it than to walk into the bar where, you know, it all started,” she said.
The Troubadour is where Glenn Frey and Don Henley met in 1970. The band produced four albums from 1972 to 1975, and a compilation titled “Their Greatest Hits (1971-1975)” became the best-selling album of the 20th century, selling more than 38 million copies in America alone.
Cindy Frey is also the mother of Deacon Frey, who became the band’s lead singer following his father’s death in 2016.

Don Henley’s first drum set is on stage at The Venetian’s Troubadour. Everything is authentic, and fans can expect a show unlike any they have ever seen.
“They have never been a band that was about flashy lights or video content or show or tricks,” Cindy Frey said. “They just stood up there and played, and they’re still going to do that, the music is going to deliver. They sound as amazing as ever.”
The Eagles are in town most weekends through January.
