Idris Elba Suggests PEOPLE's Next Sexiest Man Alive: Himself!
Idris Elba — otherwise known as PEOPLE’s reigning Sexiest Man Alive — is busier than ever.
The British star, 46, is planning his wedding to fiancée Sabrina Dhowre, traveling the country promoting Turn Up Charlie, the new Netflix series that he created and stars in — loosely based on his real side gig as a deejay.
He also directed his first feature film Yardie (in U.S. theaters on March 15), hosted Saturday Night Live for the first time on March 9, and filmed an upcoming movie version of Cats with Taylor Swift.
The actor next stars as the villain in Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw alongside 2016’s Sexiest Man Dwayne Johnson.
Despite being extremely busy, he jokes that there’s one role he’s not yet ready to relinquish. Asked for a nomination for a Sexiest Man successor, he says, “Let it be the first time in history that the Sexiest Man Alive is the same man two years in a row.”

Elba is PEOPLE’s 33rd Sexiest Man Alive, joining a long list of Hollywood’s hottest stars, starting with a then-29-year-old Mel Gibson in 1985, and last year’s pick Blake Shelton. Recent winners include The Rock, Channing Tatum and David Beckham.
He adds that getting the title bestowed on him last November was a huge compliment that he still can’t quite believe.
“The most common reaction I got was ‘It was about time!’ ” he says. “I am like, ‘Really?’ That’s lovely, but really?’ ”
