IHeartRadio Music Awards Top Week’s Twitter TV Ratings
The IHeartRadio Music Awards harmonized with TV-watching social-media users, with 7.1 million unique Twitter followers — the week’s largest online audience for any show, according to Nielsen’s Twitter TV ratings. Just off the lead was the 140th Kentucky Derby, at almost 6.85 million, and the pay-per-view boxing match between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Marcos Rene Maidana (6.4 million). It’s the first time in at least three weeks that a show topping the non-sports Twitter TV list also beat out everything in the sports top 10.
Nielsen recently began measuring the audience of unduplicated Twitter users who see posts about a show while it is on and in the three hours before and after its first airing. Live events and reality competitions tend to be dominate, which is why Nielsen creates a sports top 10 and a non-sports top 10.
Two episodes of The Voice again made the top 10, as did airings of American Idol and Dancing With The Stars. Among scripted programs, only Game Of Thrones (again) and Grey’s Anatomy broke through the special events, reality competitions and two nights of WWE wrestling.
All that programming, even the week’s No. 2, the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, trailed all the top sports events, however. The NBA playoffs continued to be big, owning spots 3 through 10, with three games between the Oklahoma City Thunder and Memphis Grizzlies, and the two featuring the Los Angeles Clippers and Golden State Warriors in the days after the NBA fined and banned Clippers owner Donald Sterling for life after racist remarks he made surfaced publicly.
