Independent Musical Productions Huntsville brings Spongebob to the big stage

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – Actors with Independent Musical Productions will bring one beloved animated sponge from Bikini Bottom to the Rocket City starting Thursday.

Based on the SpongeBob Squarepants series by Stephen Hillenburg, the “SpongeBob Musical” created by Tina Landau will make its way to the Dr. Mae Jemison Theater beginning June 27.

The citizens of Bikini Bottom discover that a volcano will soon erupt and destroy their homes, so SpongeBob and his friends must come together to save the fate of their humble home.

The musical features original music by Yolanda Adams, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, Sara Bareilles, Cyndi Lauper, Panic! at the Disco and more. As well as songs by David Bowie, Tom Kenny and Andy Paley.

The musical will run from June 27-29 with shows at 7:30 p.m. and two 2 p.m. matinees.

  • June 28 – 7:30 p.m.

  • June 29 – 2 p.m.

  • June 29 – 7:30 p.m.

  • June 30 – 2 p.m.

Tickets range from $39 to $25, with discounts for military, students, seniors and children under 12. You can purchase tickets through the IMPHuntvsille website.
