Internet “Babygirl” Kyle MacLachlan Has Become Charli XCX’s Biggest Fan

It brings me immeasurable pleasure to report that Kyle MacLachlan is, in fact, bumpin’ that.
Over the past year, the Twin Peaks alum has become one of the internet’s premier celebrity “babygirls,” whether he’s pulling off the perfect Zoomer-style 0.5 selfie or sharing a video of himself skateboarding to Lana Del Rey’s unofficial coquette anthem “Let the Light In.” But the 65-year-old actor has reached a new tier of posting since embracing “Brat Summer,” a seasonal trend inspired by Charli XCX’s Shrek green, existential-themed album of club bangers that has captivated extremely online girls and gays — and, apparently, our favorite David Lynch muse.
Like many of us, MacLachlan has been expressing his love for Brat all over social media this summer. Last month, he briefly changed his Instagram profile photo to read “Kyle” in the album’s trademark low-resolution Arial font and bright-green backdrop. On June 28, he shared a TikTok of himself jamming out to Charli and Lorde’s “girl, so confusing” remix, complete with props. One of brat’s lead singles, “von dutch,” is even his song of the summer (I’m more of a “365” girl myself, but respect!).
But this past weekend, MacLachlan reached a new personal Brat Summer milestone, posing with Charli before her Boiler Room set in Ibiza, Spain. Naturally, the singer took to X to celebrate the occasion, too, writing, “I met Mr. Brat!” And yes, this was my personal Avengers: Endgame.
During a recent GQ interview, MacLachlan waxed poetic about his brat journey, describing Charli as “very authentic.”
“The lyrics [of Bbrat] are very honest, I think they’re heartfelt,” he said. “And she asks a lot of questions which I think any artist should ask, continue to ask: Where am I? Why am I here? Do I deserve this? Yes, I deserve this. Hey, maybe I’m not sure I deserve this. And she continually goes back to her roots. So she’s maintained that connection, which I think is really important to do.”
The actor also shouted out Charli’s reflective “mix of styles,” adding that her reference to her late collaborator, the electronic music producer SOPHIE, “is great.”
MacLachlan credited his “social crew” with introducing him to the “360” singer — a job title that I’m eager to fill as soon as humanly possible. Outside of “von dutch,” MacLachlan revealed that he also has the track “i might say something stupid” on repeat.
“I was like, ‘I totally relate to that [song],’” he said. “[...] I thought that to be so… open isn’t really the word, but to expose the insecurities, along with the confidence and to be able to do both? And then both of these things living in this person is such the journey of an artist. It’s the journey of everybody. But with an artist, you have to draw from that. I think it’s really healthy to ask those questions.”
So yes, part of MacLachlan’s viral social media presence may absolutely be a genius PR move engineered by his aforementioned creative team. But given how long the queer community has loved the actor — and how long his characters have grappled with masculinity in projects like Sex and the City and Showgirls — MacLachlan’s eagerness to dive into newer, gay club-ready art just feels right. Kyle, if you’re reading this, please do the “apple” dance next!
