The Internet Is Obsessed With Doug Emhoff, Kamala Harris's Husband, After His Speech At The DNC
The DNC is the event of the season! From Michelle Obama firing up the base to celeb appearances to Barack Obama's viral joke, I'm loving the energy this year. But possibly my favorite person last night? Doug Emhoff (aka Kamala Harris's spouse and our soon-to-be First Gentleman ??).
His son Cole introduced him with a heartwarming short film that covered Doug's life from childhood to dating Kamala to becoming Second Gentleman. "Our blended family wasn’t used to politics or the spotlight, but when Kamala became senator, we were all excited to step up. Especially my dad," Cole said in the video. "Then Kamala became vice president. It felt like Doug was a bit out of place on Capitol Hill. I thought, 'What is my goofy dad doing here?' But he embraced it. ... I was so proud to watch him do it, to stand by her side, an example of true partnership."
While Cole created the film, his mother Kerstin Emhoff (Doug's ex-wife) produced it. Talk about healthy family dynamics!
Then, Doug gave a speech where he recalled getting Kamala's phone number from a client, calling her at 8:30 in the morning, and leaving a "rambling" voicemail. "Heyyyy, it's Doug. I'm on my way to an early meeting. Again, it's Doug," he said in the voicemail. Well, Kamala saved it and makes him play it on their anniversary every year — so cute! He gushed about his wife and endeared himself to viewers across the nation.
