J.D. married Usha Chilukuri, an attorney who was born and raised in a San Diego, Calif., suburb.

She works for the law firm Munger, Tolles & Olson, LLP, as a litigator, specializing in civil cases. The firm describes itself as "radically progressive," and Usha was a registered Democrat until 2014, according to The New York Times.

How did JD Vance and Usha meet?

J.D. met Usha, then Usha Chilukuri, when they both attended Yale Law School.

The couple teamed up to form a discussion group at the Ivy League university about "the social decline of white America."

He told The New York Times of Usha's influence, "She instinctively understood the questions I didn't even know to ask and she always encouraged me to seek opportunities that I didn’t know existed."

When did JD Vance and Usha Vance get married?

The Vances tied the knot in Kentucky in 2014 after graduating from Yale. In a 2022 Senatorial campaign ad, Usha called J.D. her "best friend." He feels the same.

"I'm one of those guys who really benefits from having sort of a powerful female voice over his left shoulder saying, 'Don't do that, do that,'" J.D. told Megyn Kelly on her eponymous podcast in 2020, adding that the "powerful female voice" in his life used to be his grandmother. "Now, it's Usha ... Usha definitely brings me back to earth. If I get a little too cocky or a little too proud, I just remind myself that she’s way more accomplished than I."

What is Usha Vance's religion?

The daughter of Indian immigrants, Usha Vance has said she was raised in a religious home. Her parents are Hindu, and when she wed J.D., the couple was blessed by a Hindu pundit in a separate ceremony, according to the New York Times.

Does JD Vance have kids?

The Vances share three children, per The Hill: Sons Ewan and Vivek and daughter Mirabel. The family keep their kids under wraps, especially their sons, but have shared some snaps of Mirabel, born in December 2021, through the years—especially in the leadup to J.D.'s 2022 Senate race.
