Jammin' for Jess offers a few of Beaver County's best bands (and a good cause)

BADEN - A few of the Beaver Valley's most popular bands will team up at a benefit show Nov. 13 at the Baden American Legion.

Blues-rockers Bobby Thompson & The Groove, and country group Tony Barge & The Honky Tonk Heroes will entertain at the Jammin' For Jess concert raising money for Jessica Krznar, a Baden woman diagnosed in 2019 with a rare type of cancer.

With hospital bills piling up, the musicians hope to "raise enough money to put a significant dent in said bills," Bobby Thompson & the Groove bassist Rob Sinchak said.

Jammin' For Jess begins at 12:30 p.m., with a $10 entry fee that includes a buffet. All ages are welcome. There will be a cash bar. A basket raffle and 50/50 raffle will help raise money.

The music begins at 1 p.m. with an acoustic performance by Beaver County rocker James Beswick.

Then at 2:30 p.m., acoustic duo Too Hearted takes the stage. Too Hearted impressed concertgoers at the Jambridge music festival in Ambridge in September.

Barge & The Honky Tonk Heroes go on stage at 4 p.m. Their brand of classic country and high-energy shows has earned a loyal following. Rochester Smokehouse & BBQ named a meal platter after the Honky Tonk Heroes.

At 5:30 p.m., Thompson & The Groove hit the stage, showcasing a soulful, rocking brand of blues that's made them a big draw throughout the region, even taking the band to Memphis to represent western Pennsylvania in the International Blues Challenge.

Sinchak said this show is an example of the local music scene and community rallying for a good cause.

"Jess Krznar is a local girl, born and raised in Baden. Her and I go way back," Sinchak said. "She was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 2019 and has been fighting hard ever since. The hospital/treatment bills have piled up and a group of local volunteers and businesses decided to do what we can to help ease some of the financial stress. It's going to be an impressive event in a very nice venue. Great bands and an awesome buffet of food from most of Beaver County's best restaurants. The auction will be immaculate, and the performers are all top-notch. It's a great cause and opportunity to get together and enjoy a wonderful day. We will all benefit. In a time where it seems we're so easily susceptible to division, it's beautiful to be reminded of what we can accomplish when we join together."
