Jana Kramer Says 'Hot' Nanny Comments Were Taken Out of Context After Ashley Spivey Claps Back
Jana Kramer has apologized after facing backlash for claiming she would never hire a “hot” nanny for her children.
The country singer addressed criticism spearheaded by former Bachelor contestant Ashley Spivey in an Instagram post Monday, writing that certain quotes from her podcast last week “were taken severely out of context.”
“People think I meant the nanny deserved it cause she is hot. I did NOT say that NOR would I ever say that or think that,” Kramer captioned a photo of her and husband Mike Caussin holding their 4-month-old son Jace Joseph. “No one ever deserves to be sexually assaulted in the workplace based on what they wear or how they look. Period.”
The comments the mother of two, 35, was referring to came last week in an episode of her Whine Down with Jana Kramer podcast.
“Not that I don’t trust my husband, I just think it’s not smart [to hire an attractive nanny],” Kramer said at the time. “I mean, you look at some of these nannies, and I’m like, ‘Well, you kinda asked for it, she’s kinda hot.’ You know what I mean? You’re in close quarters.”

That quote specifically was blasted by Spivey, who shared a screenshot of it to her Instagram story and wrote, “This is insulting @kramergirl. After a long day of nannying I can assure that the last thing we want to do is seduce a husband. Also, sounds like your husband sucks.”
Spivey’s post appeared to reach Kramer, who responded in an Instagram direct message that was then shared by the former reality star, who works as a nanny.
“It actually was taken out of context but u don’t need to be rude and say insulting things back when I wasn’t calling anyone out,” Kramer wrote. “All I said was it’s dangerous to hire a playboy type nanny.”
In response, Spivey doubled down on her claims that Kramer’s comments were “insulting.”
“You are insulting an entire profession of hardworking women that are taking care of your kids. And it wasn’t taken out of context. You asked for nanny horror stories to back it up. No need to be putting women down in this decade for working hard. No matter what we are wearing,” she wrote to the star.
Spivey continued with an additional post slamming Kramer’s comments: “Playboy nannies are not a thing and honestly f— Sex and the City for even making this a stereotype that is still propagated to this day. Nannies have boobs and bodies and we like sex too but we also love taking care of kids and that’s all that should be important.”
She continued, “To see women encouraging other women to share horror stories about their whorish nannies is DISGUSTING.”

In her lengthy Instagram post on Monday, Kramer explained that she and her podcast co-hosts were simply talking about not “bringing temptation” into their homes, and that while they enjoy stirring the pot, it was never their intention to offend.
“For the nannies I have offended I’m sorry,” she wrote. “The funny thing is all my past nannies have been beautiful and I never cared because they LOVED my children and that’s what it’s about. At the end of the day people will cheat no matter what and it doesn’t matter what someone looks like.”
The former One Tree Hill actress continued by writing that the bottom line of her comments was that hiring a nanny was rooted entirely in “boundaries and trust” with your spouse.
“It’s not about how hot the nanny is, or how big of boobs ur nanny has or what she is wearing … it’s about BOUNDARIES and TRUST … ” she wrote. “It truly is about having healthy boundaries with your spouse.”
Her initial comments came as she discussed her hiring process as she looked for a caregiver for her two children: Jace and his big sister Jolie Rae, 3.
“I just don’t understand some of these girls that post pictures on Care.com because I’m like, ‘Don’t you know the female is hiring?’ ” she explained. “I’m laughing at some of these pictures!”
“This one photo was like, ‘Hi, I’m 22 years old and I have perky boobs,’ ” she continued. “Like, don’t post the perky-boob photo. You’re not gonna be hired. I’m not hiring you.”

Though Kramer’s husband, 32, was reportedly unfaithful in 2016 after Jolie’s birth, the star said Caussin’s behavior was not an influence in her decision not to hire an attractive nanny.
The retired NFL player eventually entered a rehabilitation facility for sex addiction. He recently celebrated one year of sobriety, while this summer will mark three years since he first sought treatment.
The couple tied the knot in 2015, and renewed their wedding vows in December 2017.
