Jason Bateman and Will Arnett’s Joke About Jelly Roll Flops With Country Music Fans

Jason Bateman and Will Arnett squeezed in a joke about Jelly Roll during a recent joint appearance, and while it wasn't the type of comment to get them in hot ham water, it also didn't stir up many laughs.

The slightly awkward moment went down during a special concert for SiriusXM's The Highway at an intimate Hamptons-area venue over the weekend, where the duo was joined by fellow SmartLess podcast host Sean Hayes and tasked with welcoming the two-time Grammy nominee and CMA winner to the stage.

The trio, who appeared ecstatic to have been selected to hype up the crowd ahead of the intimate performance, took turns shouting out Jelly's accolades before Bateman and Arnett decided it was time for one more joke.

The two Arrested Development alums stood beside each other as they began their formal commencement introducing the 39-year-old rising country star as an "incredible performer, a husband, a father, a philanthropist, a Grammy nominated artist, a CMA Award winner."

"And you know him from his first band," Bateman interjected, setting up Arnett, 54, to deliver the punch line: "Baker's Dozen."

The lack of laughter and uncomfortable silence that ensued prompted Bateman, 55, to throw his pal under the bus, as he pointed at Arnett and suggested, "That was his joke."

Quickly redirecting the speech back to Jelly Roll and his performance, Hayes got the group back on track and the three eventually turned the stage over to the "Need a Favor" crooner, who went on to seamlessly perform an hour-long set of his original songs as well as mashups of covers from his most-listened to artists including Green Day, Garth Brooks and Eminem.

Prior to the special concert at Stephen Talkhouse in Amagansett on Saturday, Aug. 17, Bateman, Arnett and Hayes sat down for a live taping of an upcoming SmartLess special featuring Howard Stern.
