Jeff Zucker in line to take over CNN Worldwide: Report

CNN Worldwide has reportedly set its sights on the ex-honcho of NBC/Universal to take over its worldwide organization.

The New York Times is reporting that the Time Warner brass will likely choose Jeff Zucker to succeed Jim Walton, the news network’s departing president. The move is expected to pave the way for a radical overhaul of the news network, which has struggled in the ratings against rivals Fox News and MSNBC.

Zucker built his reputation at NBC’s Today Show, which led to his meteoric — though often contentious — rise at the network. He left when Comcast took over NBC last year and currently serves as the executive producer for Katie Couric’s fledgling daytime talk show.

An announcement is expected soon, the Times reports.

CNN Worldwide employs 4,000 people with offices in New York, Washington, Atlanta and around the world. The news channels make around $600 million in profits.
