Jenna Jameson Defends Following the Keto Diet While Breastfeeding: They 'Go Hand in Hand'
Jenna Jameson is opening up about motherhood on the keto diet.
On Wednesday, the former adult film star, who has long been an advocate for breastfeeding normalization, posted a side-by-side photo of herself.
On the left side, Jameson was captured breastfeeding her daughter Batel Lu, who is now almost 2. The other showed Jameson after she lost more than 80 lbs. on the diet.
In addition to the comparison shot, Jameson, 44, defended the high-fat, low-carb plan and reassured her mommy followers that it was okay to follow the diet while simultaneously nursing.
“Let’s talk breastfeeding and #keto,” she began the Instagram post. “This subject is quite taboo it seems. A lot of naysayers rattle off falsehoods like ‘you have to eat oats to produce sufficient milk’. Seriously ridiculous.”
While Jameson acknowledged that she “thought the same thing for a long time,” she went on to discover that she was “absolutely wrong,” as her milk supply actually increased from being in full ketosis. Ketosis is when your body is in a metabolic state where fat provides a majority of the body’s fuel, according to Healthline.
“When I started my #weightlossjourney I slowly subtracted carbohydrates over a week long period while monitoring my supply,” she explained. “I’m not quite sure why I thought processed foods contributed to my fabulous supply. I was absolutely wrong. The moment I got into full ketosis my milk increased.”
“I think a lot of people think Keto is all about bacon salami and copious amounts of cheese,” she continued. “It’s actually quite well rounded with lots of organic veggies, fish and eggs.”

Jameson first tried the keto diet as a last-ditch effort to lose the baby weight that stuck around after she gave birth to her daughter in April 2017.
In the post, she explained that she didn’t begin the plan until Batel was a year old — at which point her baby girl was eating “lots of Whole Foods” and breastfeeding.
In her final words, Jameson noted that not “all women are the same” and encouraged her followers to start slowly and research and monitor their progress. “Nursing and keto go hand in hand 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻” she proudly finished.

The recent post on Wednesday wasn’t the first time that Jameson has spoken about mothers practicing the keto diet while breastfeeding.
Over the summer, the star celebrated breastfeeding Batel for 16 months and clarified whether she thought the eating plan was safe to do in the midst of nursing a young one.
“From my experience it ABSOLUTELY is!” she wrote. “My supply is healthy and strong, I haven’t seen any dips in supply, letdowns, or in Batellis reaction to taste.”
“I think we are indoctrinated to think we HAVE to carb-load to have lots of milk… it’s simply untrue,” she continued. “Make sure you’re getting adequate veggies, leafy greens and grass fed meats and fish… I also recommend slowly siding into the #ketolifestyle by slow subtraction of carbs to monitor your supply.”

The star also revealed earlier this month her daughter is an unlikely supporter of the eating plan.
The mother of three spoke to her followers while cooking keto-approved cabbage and shaved steak for lunch. She said she usually adds jasmine rice or pasta for Batel, but that her toddler tends to take more to the keto parts of the meal.
“She does prefer keto foods,” Jameson said on her Instagram Stories. “I think it’s because she’s breastfed and my breast milk probably tastes like keto. I have keto boobs, guys!”
