Jeremy Allen White joins ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu,’ but you may not see him
Emmy winner Jeremy Allen White is hanging up his apron from “The Bear” and heading off to another galaxy. Deadline reported today that the actor has officially been cast in Jon Favreau‘s “The Mandalorian and Grogu” as Rotta the Hutt, son of Jabba the Hutt. He joins previously announced cast members Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian) and Sigourney Weaver, whose exact role has yet to be confirmed. The movie written by Favreau and Dave Filoni hits theaters May 22, 2026.
Favreau (who also created “The Mandalorian” series on Disney+) revealed the first look for his upcoming “Star Wars” movie at Disney’s D23 event in August. Deadline wrote at the time, “That footage showed off Babu Frick returning, and a snowy planet that looked a lot like Hoth from 1980’s Empire Strikes Back, complete with huge AT-ATs stomping around.”

According to Variety, Favreau’s film will reportedly “focus on the New Republic” and “close out” the interconnected stories that are told in “The Mandalorian,” “The Book of Boba Fett,” “Ahsoka,” and other Disney+ shows. “I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created,” Favreau told Deadline. “The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting.”
The setup as of now is quite simple: “Once a lone bounty hunter, Mandalorian Din Djarin and his apprentice Grogu embark on an exciting new Star Wars adventure.” More news will be forthcoming as production ramps up, but we don’t expect to see much of White on screen. After all, Jabba the Hutt is one big slug-of-a-gun, and we expect his next of kin will look somewhat similar.
Meanwhile, White continues to be celebrated for his FX series. Just today the two-time Golden Globe winner was nominated for Best TV Comedy Actor for the third time. The Golden Globes take place Jan. 5, 2025.
