Jesse Tyler Ferguson gives update on 'Modern Family' spin-off: 'That's the first time I've ever said that'
Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson dropped by Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen Monday night, where he opened up about the potential for a spin-off series. The series ended with his character, Mitch, and Eric Stonestreet’s Cam moving to Missouri. Despite rumors of a spin-off floating around, Ferguson had previously been tight-lipped about the possibility.
“There were discussions,” Ferguson revealed. “I think the [ABC] network decided against it.”
Ferguson appeared somewhat shocked that he admitted to speaking with the network, saying, “That's the first time I ever said that!”
Even though the series won 22 Emmys during its run, Ferguson believes the network is looking for a more modern Modern Family.
“I just wonder if this is the right family to tell this story,” Ferguson explained. “I think … we’ve been on for 11 years and they’re ready to move in a different direction.”
Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen airs Sunday to Thursday on Bravo.
