During a surprise performance at the annual Luck Reunion festival on Friday, March 13, the "With You" hitmaker, 44, got candid about her relationship with Eric Johnson — who she announced she separated from in January 2024 after 10 years of marriage.
“I was out in Nashville and I had my heart wide open, I was in a very intuitive state and I had to ask some very personal questions on the home front,” Simpson told the crowd at Willie Nelson's farm in Texas, per fan-captured TikTok footage. “And I found out that my world had been turned upside down and that life was now very different.

Before launching into her recent single "Leave," Simpson also noted that it was a "kind of a heartbreak pissed-off song"
"You know, when we open our hearts, sometimes we're vulnerable, and it just gets broken. And maybe sometimes we forget that we've been broken for a really long time, but when we meet ourselves — when we write, when we sing, when we connect with ourselves — we find all the answers," she said.

Jessica Simpson in March 2025Just two days prior, Simpson returned to the stage for the first time in 15 years at the Recording Academy's Austin Chapter Block Party at SXSW in Austin, Texas, where she performed a new song called “Blame Me," as well as her recent singles “Use My Heart Against Me” and “Leave.”
She also covered Nancy Sinatra's 1996 hit “These Boots Are Made for Walkin'" and Dusty Springfield's 1969 classic "Son of a Preacher Man."
Additionally, Simpson debuted a new song called "Breadcrumbs."
