Speaking at the event, which was held in Amagansett, New York, SmartLess hosts Will Arnett, Jason Bateman, and Sean Hayes were interviewing their SiriusXM colleague Stern when the former America’s Got Talent host mentioned Fallon.
“When Jimmy Fallon does an interview, he can’t do an hour interview because he’s dealing with televisions coming on and off,” Stern said.
Fallon was in the audience and was asked by Hayes whether he’d ever had conversations about doing longer interviews on The Tonight Show, much like Johnny Carson was able to do.
“You can’t do it,” he said. “I wish I could do a longer interview with certain guests. I do wish that I could get into it and talk for an hour. I’m jealous when can I listen to [Howard Stern]. I love it because when it gets going, it’s great.”
The event was also a live podcast taping with the SmartLess episode featuring Stern airing on September 9. Other stars in the audience included Bradley Cooper, Jon Hamm, Chad Smith and Shawn Levy.
It comes nine months after Arnett, Bateman, and Hayes signed a deal with SiriusXM to move SmartLess, which had been part of Amazon’s Wondery network, for a reported $100M. The deal also includes a number of other shows produced by SmartLess Media including Just Jack & Will, Bad Dates and Owned.
