Joan Rivers Estate to Be Auctioned Off at Christie's: Source

While Joan Rivers's Upper East Side apartment is currently listed for sale in New York City, property from the late comedian's famous estate is being readied for auction at Christie's, a source tells PEOPLE.

A once crumbling 1903 ballroom, the space was restored by Rivers with gilded boiserie, painted blue-sky ceiling frescoes and Louis XVI furniture installed in the Manhattan apartment now listed for $28 million.

"It's what Marie Antoinette would have done if she had money," she one famously said of her over-the-top home.

A spokesperson for the noted auction house was unable to confirm whether any of Rivers's personal items would indeed be going up for bid. It wouldn't be the first time Christie's has held offerings from the former Fashion Police host.

Last April, more than 150 items, including fine art and a modern tester bed upholstered in pink linen, were auctioned off from Rivers's country estate in Connecticut.

"This home was filled with some of the treasures of my life," she said in a statement at the time.

"The items offered in Christie's Interiors auction range from very personal pieces designed by friends to keepsakes that I discovered on the road while traveling for concerts. My family and I shared only the happiest moments in this home and I hope my possessions bring the new owners equal happiness and joy."

A rep for Melissa Rivers has not commented.
