Joanna Lumley Returning To Host BAFTA Film Awards In February
We don’t have the nominees yet, but we do have a host. Ab Fab veteran Joanna Lumley has been set to front the EE British Academy Film Awards for the second year running. The actress, author and activist last year replaced longtime emcee Stephen Fry. The BAFTA Film Awards ceremony takes place on February 10 and will again be held at London’s Royal Albert Hall, featuring a performance by Cirque du Soleil.
Nominations for the BAFTAs will be announced on January 9 while the EE Rising Star Award hopefuls are to be unveiled tomorrow.
This is the third year that Cirque du Soleil, which will be in residence at the Royal Albert at the time of the awards, will perform a piece specially created for the ceremony.
Emma Baehr, Director of awards at BAFTA says, “We’re delighted to be returning to the iconic Royal Albert Hall for the third year and collaborating again with Cirque du Soleil. We’re thrilled that Joanna has agreed to return as our host for a second year, she was fantastic and we’re looking forward to the ceremony with her once again at the helm.”
In 2018, Lumley kept things moving nicely after kicking off with a cheeky pre-recorded bit interspersed with clips of the nominated films. The show is broadcast on a delay on BBC One in the UK, but Deadline will be back with its annual live blog from the Royal Albert on February 10.
