John Wick Anime Revealed by Director Chad Stahelski
John Wick director Chad Stahelski has revealed that a John Wick anime is currently in the works, further expanding the acclaimed action franchise.
While speaking with The Playlist for the outlet’s The Discourse podcast, Stahelski spoke about making a John Wick television series other than The Continental, then revealed that a John Wick anime is also in the works.
“So we’re really looking forward to that; we’re really excited about it because we’re doing that and a Japanese anime because I love Japanese anime so much,” the filmmaker stated. “So to create all the cool stories that anime could achieve better than we could and the TV show to expand our world, we’ll still get our fix, you know what I mean? And we’ll still have all the fun.
“Cause I think, for TV especially, world-building and action, those two have stayed pretty separate. But to try and combine them and give fans [both]? Look, I love the [TV] slow-burn too, but after six episodes, I would like something to happen in my TV shows, you know? So, to try and bring that to TV, what we do with features would be really exciting,”
What was the most recent John Wick movie?
The most recent John Wick movie, John Wick: Chapter 4, released earlier this year. The film was directed by Stahelski from a screenplay co-written by Shay Hatten and Michael Finch, who took from franchise creator Derek Kolstad. The fourth installment starred Keanu Reeves, Lance Reddick, Ian McShane, Rina Sawayama, Shamier Anderson, Bill Skarsgard, Clancy Brown, Hiroyuki Sanada, and Donnie Yen.
“John Wick (Keanu Reeves) uncovers a path to defeating The High Table,” reads the synopsis for Chapter 4. “But before he can earn his freedom, Wick must face off against a new enemy with powerful alliances across the globe and forces that turn old friends into foes.”
