Jon Gosselin Reveals How He Feels About Son Collin Reconciling With Mom Kate After Abuse Allegations
Collin Gosselin has been open about his estrangement from mom Kate Gosselin, and her ex-husband, Jon Gosselin, has weighed in on how he feels about them possibly reconciling.
"If he wants to rectify things with his mother, I think that’s OK, you know, best of luck,” Jon, 47, told The U.S. Sun about Collin, 20, potentially reconciling with Kate, 49. “I always tell him that, you do you, bro. That’s all that matters."
Jon – who was married to Kate from 1999 until 2009 – added that he was proud of Collin for publicly speaking about his past issues with his mother. “I love my son, I support him,” he told the outlet. “I think it’s good for a man to speak up about things that happened and I think it’s closure for him.”
In addition to Collin, the former couple share twins Mady and Cara, 24, and sextuplets Hannah, Aaden, Leah, Alexis and Joel, 20.
Collin made headlines in September when he accused Kate of tying him up and locking him into a “containment room” in the family’s basement when he turned 10. “When my mother would put me in that room multiple times, she had zip-tied my hands and feet together and bolt-locked the door, turned the lights off and had cameras there just watching me,” he alleged to The U.S. Sun at the time.
Meanwhile, Jon insisted that he wasn’t aware of Kate’s alleged abuse at the time.
Kate never publicly responded to Collin’s claims. However, her attorney, Richard Puleo, told The U.S. Sun that she never “intentionally” harmed her son and she “did what she did to protect herself and her family” from Collin’s “troubled behavior.”
Despite having a complicated relationship with Kate, Collin recently revealed he would consider reconciling with his mother. “So first and foremost, my relationship with my brothers and sisters is of top priority to me,” he told The U.S. Sun in an interview published on October 8. “And I think the only way that my mother and I would be able to reconnect and fix our relationship in the future is if she would just come forward with the truth and all the things that she has kept under wraps.”
“And, you know, the many times that she’s tried to soil my name and my father’s name. I just would want her to come forward with the truth,” he continued. “[But] yes, that door would be open. 100 percent.”
Collin previously opened up about his complicated family dynamic and why he believes he’s estranged from his siblings during an appearance on Vice TV’s Dark Side of the 2000s in 2023.
“I was starting to tell people what was going on at home and, you know, [Kate] she caught wind of that and had to put me somewhere where I wouldn’t be able to get the secrets out,” the college student alleged, adding that Kate was “going through a lot of things” at the time.
Jon gained primary custody of Collin and Hannah in 2018, and the trio has kept their space from their other immediate family members in recent years.
