Jonathan Majors Sentenced After Being Found Guilty of Assault, Harassment

Former Marvel star Jonathan Majors was sentenced Monday in a Manhattan court. In December, he was found guilty of reckless assault in the third degree and harassment stemming from a March 2023 altercation with his former girlfriend, Grace Jabbari, whom he met on the set of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

Majors was facing up to a year in prison for assaulting Jabbari, but Judge Michael Gaffey spared the actor jail time, per Deadline. He was sentenced to one-year of domestic violence counseling—an “in-person batterers intervention program”—in Los Angeles, where the actor lives. Majors must also continue to see his mental health counselor and keep his distance from Jabbari.

Majors had also been cleared of two charges back in December; misdemeanor assault in the third degree with intent to cause physical injury and misdemeanor aggravated harassment in the second degree.

Jabbari spoke out at  the sentencing on Monday, blasting Majors for not apologizing, and, as she sees it, not accepting responsibility for his actions.

“He is not sorry, he has not accepted responsibility and he will do this again,” Jabbari told the court. Observing the proceedings from the front row was Majors’ current girlfriend, actor Meagan Good. “He will hurt other women. This is a man who believes he is above the law.”

"Even after a jury found him guilty, he will not stop," she concluded.

Majors reportedly stared emotionlessly at the defense table in front of him while his sentencing was being read and throughout Jabbari’s statement. Through his attorneys, Majors declined to make any comments to the court, citing fears that Jabbari might use those remarks against him in her pending civil suit.

The initial verdict had an immediate consequence on Majors' career. He was immediately dropped from his prominent role in the MCU, having debuted as the franchise’s newest villain, Kang, in Quantumania. The actor had also been set to lead the next phase of the MCU, starting with Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Marvel is now reportedly scrambling to rewrite the blockbuster sequel, with the plan being to scrap Kang altogether and come up with a fresh villain rather than recast the role.

The actor’s other project, Magazine Dreams, was abandoned by its distributor despite garnering a significant amount of Oscar buzz before its scrapped December ‘23 release. Majors does not currently have any other projects in development.
