Josh Hartnett knows “Trap” director M. Night Shyamalan's daughter better than him: 'How do you know that?'
Saleka Shyamalan kept her famous dad guessing.
Josh Hartnett is still a charmer.
Almost 25 years after his early heartthrob turns in The Virgin Suicides, The Faculty, and Here on Earth, Hartnett now plays Cooper, a parent and serial killer, in Trap. In the latest goosebump-inducing thriller from M. Night Shyamalan, Cooper takes his daughter to a concert by pop artist Lady Raven, who is played by the director's real-life daughter Saleka Shyamalan, only to find that the entire event has been set up so that authorities can catch his alter ego, The Butcher.
Ahead of their new movie, which arrives in theaters Aug. 2, Hartnett and the two Shyamalans decided to play a game to find out who knows Saleka better. She asks, and they answer, simple as that. But while you might think that Saleka's dad would win hands down, you'd be wrong, as shown in the video below.

The elder Shyamalan, known for helming movies such as The Sixth Sense, Signs, and Knock at the Cabin, is nervous from the beginning, which he really should be. His answers to questions about his daughter's favorite color, favorite singer, and favorite snack come more slowly than Hartnett's, and sometimes, not at all. Anytime he loses a question, Shyamalan has to stick his famous face into a bowl of water.
The best part has to be when Saleka asks them to name her junior prom date. Hartnett immediately pipes up that the answer is "Jake Cohen."
"How do you know that?" the senior Shyamalan asks incredulously.
The entire time, Saleka is loving it, almost as if it's a prank on her famous dad.

Hartnett has said that the part he plays, Cooper, is more complicated than your usual serial killer.
"The character has that very human element, that very normal instinct of father protecting daughter,” Hartnett told Men's Health for a story published Monday. "But clearly he doesn't interact with the other people in the world in the same way that a normal person would. It's that connection that was really cool and unusual, and I haven't seen any other characters like that in this genre before."
The Trap cast also features Ariel Donoghue, Kid Cudi, Alison Pill, and Disney great Hayley Mills.
