Joy Behar Comes to the Defense of Bill Maher on ‘The View’
Bill Maher has been getting sharp criticism over his use of the N word on his show, Real Time, but Joy Behar came to his defense on Monday’s episode of The View. She said, “Let’s not lose perspective about comedians, and words and things that comedians are saying, because there seems to be this assault on comedians.”
Maher used the N word in an unscripted moment while interviewing Sen. Ben Sasse. There was an immediate backlash, with some calling for his show to be canceled. Maher released a statement apologizing for his use of the word, and HBO has condemned his actions.
Behar hoped to pay attention to people’s actions above all else. She said, “Donald Trump and his people that ran his real estate agency — they actually practiced racism. They discriminated against black people in housing. To me, that is a much more egregious than saying any kind of word.”
