Julia Roberts Thriller ‘Fool Me Once’ Backed by eOne, Tucker Tooley

Entertainment One and Tooley Productions have come on board to produce and co-finance Julia Roberts’ upcoming thriller “Fool Me Once,” based on Harlan Coben’s novel.
Roberts announced in March that she was starring in and producing “Fool Me Once” through her Red Om Films production company. Tooley is producing with Roberts and Red Om Films’ Lisa Gillan and Marisa Yeres Gill.
“Fool Me Once” is the first project to fall under the co-financing and international distribution deal for feature films between eOne with the Relativity Media president, announced Sept. 9 at the Toronto Film Festival.
eOne will distribute the film in the U.K., Canada, Australia/New Zealand, Benelux and Spain. Additionally, as part of eOne’s partnership with Sierra Pictures, the international sales and servicing of the film will be handled by Sierra/Affinity outside of territories where eOne directly distributes.
Roberts is portraying an ex-special ops pilot who sees her daughter playing with her husband, a man who was supposedly murdered two weeks prior — and is faced with finding out what is and is not real.
“The genre of ‘Fool Me Once’ is one of my favorites,” said Roberts. “Harlan Coben has created an exceptional story and an incredible female lead character. Mr. Coben and I see things in a joyfully similar way in our approach to this endeavor. We here at Red Om are simply thrilled to have this creative opportunity with Tucker and eOne.”
While at Relativity Studios, Tooley executive produced David O. Russell’s “The Fighter.” His producer/executive producer credits also include Neil Burger’s “Limitless,” “Dear John,” “Haywire,” and “Safe Haven.”
Roberts is represented by CAA, Engelman & Company and Hirsch Wallerstein. Coben is represented by CAA, Aaron Priest Agency and attorney Michael Gendler.
