‘Junction 48’ Bought By The Orchard; ‘Chicken People’ Goes To Goldwyn, ‘Fear, Inc.’ To Electric Entertainment
The Orchard has acquired all North American rights to Junction 48, director Udi Aloni’s film inspired by Palestinian rapper Tamer Nafar, who stars as Kareem, a rapper who leads an aimless life between odd jobs and hanging out with his buddies in a crime-ridden Arab ghetto of the mixed city of Lyd. Junction 48 won the Panorama Audience Award at the 2016 Berlin International Film Festival and Best International Narrative Feature at the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival. The film, co-written by Nafar and Oren Moverman, was produced by David Silber, Stefan Arendt, Blackbird’s Lawrence Inglee, and Udi Aloni, and executive produced by Oren Moverman and James Schamus. The Orchard plans a theatrical release in early 2017. The deal, announced by Orchard, was negotiated by Lawrence Inglee and Oren Moverman on behalf of the filmmakers. The film was also co-produced by Hyperion’s Michael Mailis and Susan Wrubel, along with Tadmor’s Gideon Tadmor and Eyal Rimmon.
Samuel Goldwyn Films has acquired North American rights from CMT to Chicken People, Samuel Goldwyn Films and CMT announced today. Nicole Lucas Haimes’ documentary about the Ohio National Poultry Show world premiered at the 2016 South By Southwest Film Festival and will continue its fest run before a late-summer theatrical release, an October On Demand and Digital release and, later this year, a premiere on CMT. The doc, produced by Motto Pictures, is the first theatrical run for a CMT original doc and has been described as a real-life Best in Show for chickens. Chicken People was produced by Terry Leonard, Caroline Kaplan, Christopher Clements, Julie Goldman; executive produced by Jayson Dinsmore, Lewis Bogach, John Miller--Monzon, Nicole Lucas Haimes and co--produced by Carolyn Hepburn and Diane Becker. The deal was negotiated by Jill Karole and Peter Goldwyn on behalf of Samuel Goldwyn Films, Anne Oakley, Jodi Carmichael, John Miller-Monzon and Sean Bangert of CMT Films, and Linzee Troubh of Cinetic.
Electric Entertainment has acquired all media rights for the U.S. and Canada for horror comedy Fear, Inc., it was announced today by Dean Devlin, President and CEO of the company. The film, which world premiered in the Midnight Section at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival, is set for a digital release across all VOD platforms on October 21st. Fear, Inc. follows a horror junkie (Lucas Neff) and his friends who hire a company that brings its customer’s fears to life. Co-stars are Caitlin Stasey, Chris Marquette, Stephanie Drake, Abigail Breslin and Mark Moses, with direction by Vincent Masciale and a script by Luke Barnett. Barnett and Masciale produced (for Lone Suspect) along with Natalie Rose Masciale and Heather Kasprzak. Executive producing is Bradley Gallo, Michael Helfant, Tanner Thomasan, Giles Daoust, John Suits, Gabriel Cowan, Maxxe Sternbaum, Zack Imbrogno and Frank Masciale. The deal was brokered by Electric Entertainment’s Head of Domestic Distribution, Zac Reeder and Chief Financial Officer Jeff Gonzalez and by CAA and Amasia Entertainment on behalf of the filmmakers.
