Justin and Hailey Bieber go way, way back.

Before they tied the knot in 2018, the musician and Rhode founder and model met as kids back in 2009. They then dated off and on for years before making it official with a small courthouse wedding and a larger celebration in 2019. After several years of married life, the Biebers have now welcomed their first baby together.

What better time to revisit their relationship milestones, from that first awkward meeting to their current domestic life as parents-to-be? Ahead, take a trip down memory lane with Justin and Hailey Bieber's complete relationship timeline.

August 2024: The couple is reportedly “overjoyed” with the birth of Jack Blues Bieber; Justin is “already a great dad.”

Justin Bieber officially announced the birth of his and Hailey's baby on August 23, 2024, revealing they had chosen the name Jack Blues Bieber. A few days after the baby's birth, sources close to the couple told People that they were “both overjoyed” and that the baby was “adorable” and "such a miracle” for the couple. The source also shared that both Jack Blues and Hailey were healthy and doing well.

"The pregnancy was something that they very much wished and prayed for," the source also shared. “The day they found out that Hailey was pregnant was the best ever for Justin. He was over the moon with excitement. It was a big celebration for them.” The source also added that “Justin's already a great dad.”

Justin's mom, Pattie Mallette, had already echoed the sentiment on Instagram months prior while celebrating Father's Day in June, writing: “Happy Father’s Day, Justin. You’ve always wanted to be a dad ever since I can remember. You have so much love to give. You’re gonna be the best daddy ever. You already are.”

Now that baby no. 1 is finally here, Justin and Hailey are not the only members of the Bieber-Baldwin family overjoyed. On August 25, Mallette bragged about her grandma's status on X. She also wrote a message to celebrate the baby's birth a couple of days prior: “CONGRATULATIONS @justinbieber & Hailey. I LOVE YOU FOREVER BABY JACK!!” Hailey's dad, Stephen Baldwin, reshared Mallette's post, writing: "Amen, Congratulations to you and may God continue to bless our family."

July 2024: Justin and Hailey prepare for their baby's birth.

Baby Bieber will make its arrival soon, and Mom and Dad are busy nesting in preparation. A source told ET that the couple has been prepping by “spending time with family and friends, going to church, and leaning on their close-knit circles on the regular,” in attempts to keep things “sacred” and private.

“Justin and Hailey are feeling so thrilled and excited as Hailey gets closer to her due date,” the source shared. "They can't wait to have a family together and are closer to one another than ever before… Justin has been doing little things to take care of Hailey whether it's satisfying her pregnancy cravings, massaging her feet, or treating her to nice dinners. He's at her beck and call and the sky is the limit. Whatever she needs, he’s sure to get.” As he should!

May 2024: The couple announces their pregnancy.

Baby, baby, baby, oh! The Biebers announced the impending arrival of their first child in May 2024 with a carousel of pics and videos from their outdoor vow renewal ceremony in Hawaii. Hailey wore a white lace Saint Laurent dress with a veil with her growing bump peeking out, while Justin wore his signature backward baseball cap and an oversized jacket. (Fun fact: It was later confirmed that Hailey got a gorgeous, behemoth upgrade to her engagement ring, now wearing her original — and already massive — ring as a pinky accessory.)

March 2024: Hailey shuts down divorce rumors.

In early 2024, Hailey appeared to shut down any rumors of drama between herself and Justin, posting an Instagram Story that read: “Just FYI, the stories and constant 'blind items' I see on TikTok are 100% of the time wrong. Made out of thin air…Come from the land of delusion.” Hailey continued on to say that while it “might be fun” to speculate, “just know [these stories] are always false.”

October 2023: Justin turns Hailey's texts into art.

Now that's what we call a wife guy. Justin had a handful of “miss you” texts from his wife turned into art as a gift. (The diamond “B” bubble necklace is another iconic gift from Justin to Hailey, and one she wears all the time.)

August 2023: Justin and Hailey go viral for their mismatched style.

Both Biebers have instantly recognizable personal style, but it seems like they're never dressed for the same event. In summer 2023, the couple went viral for their mismatched his-and-hers looks, with fans lovingly teasing them for it.

May 2023: Hailey talks about having kids with Justin.

Hailey got vulnerable about her desire for a family but fear about raising kids in the public eye in an interview with The Sunday Times. "I want kids so bad, but I get scared," Hailey revealed. “It's enough that people say things about my husband or my friends. I can't imagine having to confront people saying things about a child.”

May 2021: Justin and Hailey make their Met Gala couple debut.

Mr. and Mrs. Bieber attended the 2021 Met Gala as a married couple, matching in all-black with Hailey in a strapless black Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello gown and Justin in a black suit and white shirt. Looking chic as ever.

December 2020: Justin says he wants a “little tribe” of kids.

A little more than a year after their formal wedding, Justin told Ellen DeGeneres that he was ready for kids. “I'd love to have myself a little tribe,” he said. However, he added that Hailey wasn't quite on the same page yet and “has some things she wants to accomplish as a woman” before adding to their family — a decision he respected. "But, yeah, it's her body and whatever she wants to do."

September 30, 2019: Justin and Hailey Bieber finally have a wedding celebration.

The Biebers made it official (again) with a big wedding celebration on September 30, 2019 in South Carolina. Justin wore a white Céline by Hedi Slimane tux and Hailey wore three different looks, including a custom Virgil Abloh gown with a sheer veil that read “till death do us part." She ended the night in a custom Céline jacket with the singular word “wife” on the back.

February 2019: The newlyweds cover Vogue.

The newlyweds snagged the cover of Vogue in early 2019 and opened up about married life together. “The thing is, marriage is very hard,” Hailey said at the time. “That is the sentence you should lead with. It’s really effing hard.”

In the revealing interview, Justin talked about dealing with depression during the Purpose Tour and the two also spoke about their breakup in 2016, with Hailey saying, “Negative things happened that we still need to talk about and work through. Fizzled would not be the right word — it was more like a very dramatic excommunication. There was a period where if I walked into a room, he would walk out.” The pair said they reconnected at church and were engaged shortly thereafter.

November 2018: Justin and Hailey Bieber celebrate Thanksgiving.

In a sentimental Instagram post on Thanksgiving, Justin commemorated his first time celebrating the holiday as a married man, adding in the caption that it was also his “first time hosting Thanksgiving” and the “first time both sides of the family has come together.”

“Happy late thanksgiving to everyone… Relationships are hard and love isn’t always easy but thank you Jesus for showing me how! Every day is a learning process, trying to be more like him, patient, kind, selfless, boy I got a long way! But gods grace is sufficient,” he wrote.

That wasn’t the only big event of the holiday season; right before Christmas, the Biebers announced that they’d adopted a tiny little puppy named Oscar. Shortly after New Year's, it was reported that Justin and Hailey were beginning the house-hunting process, as they were spotted checking out multi-million dollar mansions in California.

November 16, 2018: Hailey changes her last name.

All the speculation was put to rest mid-November when Hailey switched her Instagram handle to @haileybieber, updating the name associated with the account as well. That same day, Justin posted a photo, writing: “My wife is awesome.”

Soon after the big reveal, Hailey was spotted several times wearing her new name. The model sported a jacket with “Bieber” across the back, and was also seen wearing a splashy diamond necklace displaying her new last name.

September-October 2018: Justin and Hailey Bieber get married.

Engagement rumors soon switched to marriage rumors after Justin and Hailey were spotted at the New York City Marriage Bureau in September, leading many fans (and media outlets) to believe that they might have tied the knot. Hailey addressed the rumors in a now-deleted tweet, explaining at the time: “I understand where the speculation is coming from, but I’m not married yet!”

It seemed as though fans weren’t the only ones confused by their relationship status; Hailey’s cousin Ireland also told Entertainment Tonight that she had “no idea” what their situation was. The plot thickened when Justin casually started referring to Hailey as his wife, and reportedly told fans that they were married.

July 9, 2018: Justin and Hailey confirm their engagement with a hard launch on Instagram.

On July 9, Justin confirmed the engagement himself with a heartfelt post on Instagram. Alongside beautiful black-and-white photos of him and Hailey, he wrote: "Was gonna wait a while to say anything but word travels fast, listen plain and simple Hailey I am soooo in love with everything about you! So committed to spending my life getting to know every single part of you loving you patiently and kindly."

He continued on, “My heart is COMPLETELY and FULLY YOURS and I will ALWAYS put you first! You are the love of my life Hailey Baldwin and I wouldn’t want to spend it with anybody else. You make me so much better and we compliment each other so well!! Can’t wait for the best season of life yet!” At the time, Hailey chimed in on Twitter, writing: “Not sure what I did in life to deserve such happiness but I am so utterly grateful to God for giving me such an incredible person to share my life with! No words could ever express my gratitude.”

July 2018: Justin reportedly proposes to Hailey.

Throughout July 2018, Justin and Hailey continued to live their best lives (despite their car breaking down on the way to the Hamptons for Fourth of July weekend). Then, on July 7, Justin reportedly proposed to Hailey while the two were on vacation together in the Bahamas. According to eyewitnesses, Justin and Hailey were salsa dancing at a restaurant at a local resort moments before he popped the question. At some point, security apparently told other restaurant patrons to put their phones away, because "Justin was about to do something special."

On social media, Justin’s mother and father both expressed their happiness for the couple, as did Hailey’s father. Over the weekend of July 7, neither Hailey nor Justin had confirmed their engagement. However, eyewitnesses claim they saw Hailey wearing a gigantic diamond ring at a party with Justin, and it did seem that Hailey was suggesting something by liking a certain post on social media about the potential engagement.

June-July 2018: Justin and Hailey reunite.

Throughout June and July of 2018, Jailey officially reunited and blessed fans with plenty of PDA. The stars were seen at church and on their way to the club in Miami, and a couple days later, Hailey and Justin were spotted together all over Brooklyn, holding hands and kissing around New York City.

By the end of the month, Hailey had deleted every picture of her rumored ex-BF Shawn Mendes from her Instagram. For his part, the "Mercy" singer always insisted he and Hailey were "just friends." Hailey's comments back this up, and Shawn had nothing but kind words for Hailey and Justin in an interview at the time.

May 2018: Hailey says she and Justin “work better as friends.”

At the end of May, The Times released their new interview with Hailey. In it, she discussed a number of things, from meditation to politics to dating problems. “The dating pool is small," she said. "It's rare to find somebody that has the same ideas and morals as me. I have found people like that before, though, which is refreshing."

In reference to Justin, she offered a huge chunk of insight regarding their history. "I met him when I was really young and he was one of my best friends," Hailey explained. "Everybody knows that at a certain point in time that turned into something else, but that just happens when you’re 18, 19. It was what it was."

According to Hailey, dating a high-profile star was “weird.” “I’d never been through [a high-profile relationship] like that,” she elaborated. “But it brought both of us to the realization that we just work much better as friends. He’s somebody I really cherish. Now it’s a very mature situation. It’s good.”

December 2016: Justin and Hailey split.

At the end of 2016, Justin and Hailey were spotted hanging out again. But after that, things went a bit quiet. Hailey would later reveal in a 2018 interview with The Times that she and Justin “didn’t speak for quite some time and there was a lot of weirdness that went on.”

In August of 2017, Hailey and Justin might have crossed paths when they both attended a three-day church conference in Los Angeles. Selena was there, too, but there’s no sure sign any of them interacted.

By the end of the year, Justin and Selena reunited and began going to Christian couples therapy. In an effort to be “open and honest,” Justin reportedly admitted to reaching out to Hailey to make amends as part of his born-again faith. According to TMZ, Selena was less than thrilled to hear Hailey and Justin were chatting.

Spring-summer 2016: Justin and Hailey's relationship gets serious.

In April 2016, Hailey opened up to Marie Claire and followed up Justin’s comments about their relationship with a few of her own. "I don't want attention out of dating somebody,” she explained. “Texts started coming through, crazy phone calls... it's hard to date somebody in this industry. You have to have really thick skin and be very strong. You have to focus on the person and nothing else."

In May 2016, Hailey took her parents to a Justin Bieber concert. She shared a cute Snapchat of them at the show, captioning the picture "Momz and Dad love it."

Over the Fourth of July, Hailey triggered a false alarm after wearing a red swimsuit emblazoned with the words “just married.” But as she later clarified in an interview with Teen Vogue, the swimsuit’s message was just a joke. “I thought it was funny because it's clear that I'm not married or getting married anytime soon, so it was supposed to be like yeah, LOL, I just got married,” she said at the time. “It’s a cute, little, red swimsuit, so I was like, 'Whatever. I don't really care what people think.' I’m 19! Let me live.”

But then in August 2016, Hailey got caught in Justin and Selena’s Instagram drama. On August 15, Hailey apparently posted and deleted a long note about honesty and blame on Instagram. Many fans interpreted the note as a response to the Jelena Instagram feud, and reportedly, Justin unfollowed Hailey’s account. That is, until he deleted his account entirely. Later that day, Hailey tweeted a clarification, saying she didn’t want to be “roped” into the narrative and asking for her privacy to be respected. Well said, queen.

February 2016: Justin talks publicly about marriage.

In February 2016, Hailey met Justin’s crew of friends in San Francisco. Shortly after, she finally confirmed that she and Justin were dating, but clarified the parameters of their relationship. "We are not an exclusive couple,” Hailey told E! News at the 2016 amFAR New York Gala. "He's about to go on tour,” she continued. “Relationships at this age are already complicated, but I don't really like to talk about it because it's between me and him."

In the middle of the month, Justin’s March GQ cover story was released early online. The interviewer asked about the status of his relationship with Hailey, and Justin openly admitted his love for her, but ultimately said she wasn’t his girlfriend and he didn’t want to be “held down by anything.”

But he quickly added this unforgettable comment about Hailey: "I don't want to feel like the girl I love is an added responsibility," he said. "I know that in the past I've hurt people and said things that I didn't mean to make them happy in the moment. So now I'm just more so looking at the future, making sure I'm not damaging them. What if Hailey ends up being the girl I'm gonna marry, right? If I rush into anything, if I damage her, then it's always gonna be damaged."

January 2016: Justin and Hailey make it Instagram official.

Justin and Hailey spent New Year's together once again! And not long after returning from vacation, Justin made their relationship Instagram official with this blurry but iconic photo of him and Hailey kissing.

December 2015: Hailey goes on vacation with Justin.

December started with an adorable Instagram exchange in which Justin discovered Hailey wearing his sweatpants on Instagram and playfully asked her to give them back in the comments. But she refused, saying “they look better on me.” As Hailey told Vogue at the time, she loves to wear clothes that look like they were stolen from a boyfriend’s closet. At the end of 2015, Justin took Hailey on a New Year's beach vacation with his father and two siblings. Justin posted an Instagram video of him sneakily giving Hailey a wet willie. “She thought we were taking a photo,” he wrote in the caption. Even in this silly clip, their chemistry is undeniable.

June 2015: Justin and Hailey are spotted together throughout the summer.

In summer 2015, Justin and Hailey were spotted spending some time poolside together in Miami. They also attended the same Hillsong Church Conference in Sydney, Australia, and in July, Justin posted a picture with Hailey’s dad on Instagram, gently teasing her with the caption: “With the coolest Baldwin I know.” Beyond that, the public sightings seemed to stop for a few months, with the exception of a casual stroll through Beverly Hills in October 2015.

January 2015: Justin and Hailey spend New Year's together.

Only days after addressing rumors on social media, Hailey, Justin, and friends kicked off 2015 with a vacation to the Caribbean for New Year's Eve. Justin and Hailey watched fireworks, rode jet-skis, and lit the Internet afire with even more whispers about a possible romance.

At the end of January, Hailey, Justin, and Kendall attended a LA Clippers game together and partied at Coachella alongside friends. For a moment there, fans speculated there was a love triangle happening — but as we’ve since learned, the group hangouts were merely evidence of the trio's years-long friendship.

December 2014: Justin and Hailey deny a relationship.

But in December, both parties made it clear they were simply close friends. On December 8, Hailey shared a comment about the speculation to E! News while at a movie screening. "I've known him since I was so young — since I was like 13 — and we've just been good friends over the years," she stated. “We have just stayed close and there's nothing more to it than that."

A few days later on December 15, Justin posted a photo of him and Hailey to Instagram with the caption: “People are crazy. I'm super single and this is my good friend u would know otherwise.” Despite their claims, Justin and Hailey were seen on two romantic dinner dates in New York City and one breakfast date in New Jersey in late December.

Later that month, Hailey took to Twitter (RIP) to further shut down any speculation of what was going on between them, writing, “Glad I got such a good night sleep last night, at MY own home, alone. Quit it with the stories!”

October 2014: Justin and Hailey start hanging out.

In 2014, the couple called it quits for the last time. In the months following the split, Justin started hanging out and attending church with besties Hailey and Kendall Jenner. Hailey made a couple appearances on Justin’s Instagram in November and December, which inevitably sparked dating rumors.

September 2011: Hailey tweets out #Jelena support.

From 2010 onward, Justin dated Selena Gomez on and off. In September 2011, Hailey tweeted a sweet supportive message to Jelena, basically calling them couple goals. “I don't care what anyone says but Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez together is the definition of a teenage dream,” she wrote at the time.

February 2011: Hailey takes a photo with Justin at the Never Say Never premiere.

At the New York City premiere of Justin's 3D concert doc Never Say Never, Hailey and her father attended and posed for a photo with Justin on the red carpet. At the time, Justin was 16 and Hailey was 14. Now that's one for the archives.

Circa 2009: Hailey Baldwin and Justin Bieber meet.

Hailey and Justin’s story begins in 2009, when Hailey’s father, actor Stephen Baldwin, introduced the two. The auspicious moment was originally reposted to Vine (RIP) where it made the rounds, but luckily, you can still view it on YouTube. In the clip, Hailey looks embarrassed by her dad and a bit timid. But she shakes Justin’s hand politely, nevertheless. (Seven years later, Justin would retweet a link to the throwback video, calling it “amazing.” We love a full-circle moment.)
