Kate McKinnon spoofs Jeff Sessions testimony for Seth Meyers
Since it's Saturday Night Live's off-season, Seth Meyers did us a solid. The former Weekend Update anchor brought on Kate McKinnon to Late Night and let her reprise her Jeff Sessions impression in recreating the Attorney General's Senate testimony.
"Because we're off, I couldn't help myself," McKinnon said before sliding right into, "Oath. Oath is such a strong word. Now, when I said oath, I thought I was saying oats in one of those lisp-y Barcelona accents."
Regarding reports of Sessions' meetings with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak, the Rough Night star riffed, "I only met him two times. Three times. Okay, three times, but the third, the third time was in a men's restroom and we were just talkin' about what a trial it is to get soap outta those electric soap dispensers."
"As for [former F.B.I. director] Jim Comey," she continued, "he asked me to keep Trump outta his way, right? And they're saying I didn't respond. But the truth is I didn't hear 'em 'cause, now, this guy was about 6-foot-8 and I had heard a sound above my head. I thought it was a cicada."
McKinnon told Meyers she prefers playing Sessions over her other famous Trump administration impression, Kellyanne Conway. "For me, Sesh, there's a joyfulness with which he proceeds," she said. It's been difficult to her without a platform to perform as the Senate hearings continue during SNL's hiatus. "There's a party going on and I'm not there," McKinnon joshed. "And I know what's going on because I read it on the Internet, but I can't comment on it."
McKinnon offered a bonus to the Late Night audience in performing a taste of one of her "white whales" — i.e. sketches she wasn't able to get on SNL. "I had this Scottish troll character named Colleen. She was a Scottish troll and she wanted a kiss. That was her deal, and I did it at the read-through table…10 times, 10 times in one year, and it just didn't work," McKinnon said.
She further explained that Colleen "was a tour guide but she was also a troll, but then she was the prime minister of Scotland, but then she was Susan Boyle, but then she was a bunch of other things."
