In the wake of Kate Middleton’s cancer diagnosis, the wave of support from fans has been tinged with reflections on past controversies surrounding the Duchess, especially amid her health battle. This period of vulnerability has led many to question the fairness of the royal family’s actions, particularly in relation to the Mother’s Day Photoshop incident that now seems unfairly attributed to the Princess of Wales.

Many speculated that this wasn’t coming straight from Middleton (or that she even did the edit herself), and in light of her diagnosis, many more are now convinced that is absolutely the case.

“So why did They throw Kate Middleton under the bus for her ‘photoshop hobby’ and cause an international incident… i fear some press team beheadings are in order,” wrote one user on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

The sentiment was echoed across the digital landscape, with another remarking, “All the fingerwagging at people who were like ‘this Kate Middleton s*** is weird’ seems to have missed the point entirely, as now we know the truth the whole thing is EVEN WEIRDER. What on earth. Blame her for photoshop, put out fake footage, make her do a solo announcement??”

Some suggest that the royal family’s handling of the situation was a tactical move to divert attention.

“They want us to feel terrible. They want us to spend the next few days, hating on each other for the memes and the speculation. This is also part of their PR strategy of shifting focus away from themselves and framing us as uncivilized peasants. This disappointment reached a boiling point with another fan’s blunt critique: “F*** the palace for lying to people in such a sketchy way, throwing Kate under the bus with the ‘Oopsie it was my amateur photoshop skills, my fault’ and now trying to make it seem like ‘we’re* awful for speculating.’”
